| Atopica Results? I did a search and found many posts regarding people who were starting their Yorkies on Atopica starting in approximately April of this year. I would like to know what kind of results you had with grass/pollen/environmental allergies? What dosage did you start with and what dosage are you using now? Did you see any side effects? If you know how much the cost is...that would be great but my decisions on what is best for Paris is not $$ based. Thank you for your help...we need some long term relief!!! Cheers, Lorene

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali Started on it several months ago, after trying all the other things, like diet elimination, benydryl, another prescription anhtihistimine, nothing worked. Cali scratched night and day all the time. So I heard about Atopica on here and asked my vet and she checked to see if it would be ok for Cali as she had mild MVD and ordered it in for me. She said that she had one other dog in the practice on it but it was expensive. It ended up not being too horrible for Cali as she was small, the other dog was a large breed dog so much more expensive. I pay 60.00 for 30 pills. We had hoped to get Cali to one very other day but when I tried last month she started scratching again. Fot the mopst part it has eliminated her scratching. Just recently with the season changes she has scratched a very little here and there. I am very happy with the results with Cali. The first time we started her on it she got really depressed and lethargic and acted strange so my vet gave her a very mild steroid for the first 10 days and then she was fine from then on.

| We had Doogan on Atopica for a few months but had a difficult time trying to get proper dosage for him. It is only (or was, it might have changed) available in 10 or 25 mg dosages and is based on the weight of the dog. His weight at the time was 6.5 lbs so the dosage he needed was 18 mg. The 10 mg gave little to no results and the 25 gave him weird reactions because it was over medicating him. The cost in Canada for the 10 mg was $4.80 per pill without insurance (we have insurance) so it is quite costly here. We made the decision to take him off of Atopica because of the dosing issues and are now waiting to see a Dermatologist in October

| Thank you for your responses... I am concerned about the issues you both brought up because Paris also has a chronic bladder infection problem (no stones, only crystals). I will take this information back to our vet to discuss the possibilities. ~Lorene

| Just an update... the allergy shot Paris received a few weeks ago didn't last very long so we are going to put her on Atopica this Friday. I still have some concerned and I hope I am doing the right thing. If we could just have snow on the ground all year long...and she never touched the grass...everything would be perfect!!

| Stella has been on Atopica for several months. They have to take it daily for a month before you can try decreasing to every other day. It has helped a great deal with her scratching and the only side effect I've seen is an upset tummy sometimes. Directions are to give it 1 hour before eating or 2 hours after, 1 hour before made her majorly sick. Two hours after wasn't long enough, now I try for at least 3 hours after eating. We had tried 2 prescription antihistamines prior, she had a reaction to both of them. One physical and the other was paranoia. She is on the 10mg every other day and weighs around 5.5 lbs, this is a long term treatment. Last edited by Stella's mom; 09-22-2008 at 07:40 PM. Reason: addition |
