| freaking out about imperfect kidney I posted several weeks ago regarding my fears about getting Daisy spayed. She will finally be spayed tomorrow after undergoing many tests and an ultrasound due to her kidneys. One of her kidneys is slightly defective. The vet feels that this won't be a problem, only something to watch in the future. Obviously, I'm very nervous. Does anyone have any experiences like this? |

| Not had this problem, but have had much worse and even to the point that one foster couldn't be sedated at all. I'm sure your baby will be just fine. It's generally the heart and lungs that can give problems when under. Hugs to you and your baby. Give us updates.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Dixie was born with congenitally undeveloped kidneys that never developed and sadly I had to put her down at 7 months. But with a mild defect of one kidney she should be fine. Dixie's specialist said that dogs can live with 25 % kidney function. I will keep her in my prayers for a safe spay.

YT 500 Club Member | Sophie went into kidney failure at about 14 weeks, about 3 weeks after we brought her home. We nearly put her down, but our wonderful vet saw that my husband and I and Sophie were already very bonded and tried desperately to save her life. She was on weekly fluids for a time and seemed to turn the corner, but when we went to have her spade, the vet found that her blood work was still off. So they gave her more fluids to bring it up and finally did the surgery. She did just fine. She continued fluids weekly for two years and is now a healthy 7 y/o. She has never had an ultrasound. We don't know what caused kidney failure, and we don't know if they are 100 % today but her blood work is good. Whenever she has teeth cleaned we get the blood work to make sure.
