| Blue under spay area!? Not sure if this is the right spot, if not then a moderator can move it. Lilly was spayed on Friday morning. I've been trying to keep an eye on the area so I can make sure it heals right. I've noticed an area below her spay area that looks blue . Almost like it's bruised or something. At first I thought it was like where you were seeing into her stomach but my boyfriend said it was probably just bruising. Is this common or what? I can try to take a picture if it's needed. Also, is it ok if I give her Children's Benadryl? How much do I give? I can't remember what the doctor said when I asked before. She weighs almost 9 lbs. Her skin is bothering her (I guess where I didn't bathe her before the spay) so I need to give her some so she isn't biting every 5 seconds. Thanks!

| It is hard to say without seeing a picture. Neither of my girls had any bruising. It does not sound normal to me. I would call the vet and also mention the skin issue. They can give you some cream to put on her. Poor baby, hope she feels better soon.

| I mean she feels fine. She felt fine the day of, that's what kills me about her. I've tried hard to keep her from jumping and all that stuff and ignored her when she brings me a toy wanting to play. I noticed the blue area the day after but it may have been there the day of. She'll occasionally try to lick it but I tell her no and she stops. I just don't get why it's blue though . Why would I need to get a cream from them? They told me to use the Children's Benadryl but I haven't had to use it until now, they told me this like a little over a month ago when she was in for a nail trim. Thanks!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would call my vet. Roxie had swelling under her incison after her spay a few weeks ago and kept trying to lick the area so I took her in and they gave her medicine to take away the swelling.

| Yeah, I'm going to call in the morning and ask. They also didn't set up a follow up date... is that normal? I'm so confused, I've never had to go through all this before so sorry for all the questions .

| I'm not sure about blue but Ellie had red spots on her belly about a centimeter away from her incision. It ended up being normal. I don't know if Benadryl will help an itchy incision because it probably isn't an allergy but if the vet told you to, I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. Ellie's dose is 1/2 teaspoon and she is just over 5 pounds. Does she have a onesie or e-collar? If the stitches are dissolvable, she may not need follow-up although they should look to make sure it is healing either way. When in doubt, have them look at it. It is better than a problem going untreated. I had Ellie's vets look at hers twice before her staples came out and it was no charge.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I had something similar Aiden was nuetered and he chewed out the 5 staples the vet put in 2 days later..s o I had to take him to the emergency on call vetat 12 am ..long story short, they fixed things and noticed a blue spot..he said it looked like a bruise and it was a little swollen. I know a neuter is less invasive than a spay, but his little incision was fine, but they are doing alot in a little area, and after a week or so it was gone. They just told me to watch it,and it did'nt bother him at all.

| was she in heat or just out of heat when she was spayed? mitzy was spayed 2 weeks ago and was a month out her heat but i guess wasnt all the way done and was a little bit bloody and bruised around her incision (normal for coming out of or being in heat vet said).. does lily have an expen or a crate to stay in to keep her from jumping.. we had a nightmare with my other dogs neuter we didnt keep him still and his stiches came undone and his sac that keeps his organs inside came out (he had a retained testacle).. so be careful not to let her exercise to much. if you need to take her on a short very easy walk.. she will feel fine but it does take awhile for the incision to heal.

| i know its tough to do it but its better to have her safe then have to pay more money to get her stiches redone.. i think as long as shes not jumping or runnnig to hard she should be ok. it doesnt hurt to call the vet though and see if she was going to heat during the surgery (it should have noted but it may not have been)

| Update I let my worrying get to me and decided to go ahead and call and go see the vet today. The bruising still hasn't gone away and I noticed a "lump" beside the incision area. He said everything looks normal and is healing great. He said the "lump" is from swelling, I didn't know she'd still be swollen since it's almost been 7 days but I assume he knows what he's talking about .
