| Flea Question--I'm new here! Hi, I have an 8 month old beautiful boy and I can't get rid of his fleas. I have done the Frontline and given him the flea pill from the vet. I have also bathed him in flea shampoo (and waited the 5-10 min although he didn't like it) and I also used Adams spray which I won't use again because it really bothered him. Anyway, my other two dogs don't have fleas at all, only my Yorkie! My Mom has his mom and she said to use Advantage that it works better. I would like to know what you all think. Also, I am going to try to bathe him in Dawn like I read on some posts. Thanks in Advance! I'm so glad I found this forum. Yeah |

| The dawn will kill the ones on him but you may have some in your carpet that could get on him again. Although if you did it seems like your other dogs would be getting them. I have used advantage also and it works but I would be concerned about too much chemicals if you have already put on frontline

| Gus does fine on Frontline, but I know all dogs are different. Just wondering, though, if you've treated your house for fleas. He's not going to be completely flealess unless they're gone from the furniture and everything. You may also want to consider treating your yard; there are lots of sprays that can be used for that, and there are some organic methods as well. |

| Thanks for the advice. I used the Frontline a little over a month ago and have treated the yard too. I haven't treated the house yet mainly because I don't want the chemicals and also because I would think if we have a flea problem our other pets would have fleas too. Has anyone used the product Sentry? I have been reading reviews on the "Spot On" treatments and it got good reviews along with Advantage and Frontline but is a lot cheaper. Just wondering if anyone has used that one. |

| The one time that I had a small flea problem in the house, I used the Zodiac upholstery and carpet spray. It worked very well. |

| I agree wth Chachi, I would be concerned with too many chemicals. It seems odd to me that just one dog has them. Maybe it was a bad batch of frontline. Are you seeing the fleas? There is a new one out call promeris. ProMeris® You could try that. |

| Thanks I'll try to night light and container with water and Dawn. It has been a month since I gave him the frontline so I bought some Advantage today. If we have fleas then would you suggest bombing the room where we spend most of our time (bedroom) or some other home remedy? |

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | IMO, Frontline is the best. I tried Advantage (because I couldn't get the Frontline right then) once on my cats....nada! So, back to Frontline for me. I noticed you said you treated him over a month ago. The Frontline is a once per month treatment, so that could be it....unless you've been seeing them on him since you treated him with it. Also, you can't bathe 2 days before or 2 days after treating with any Drop or Spray style flea treatment. Otherwise, it will likely be ineffective, or at least its effectiveness will be reduced. The pills you talked about only kill fleas that are in the adult stage and only if the flea actually bites your dog. Frontline (and Advantage for that matter, I believe) kills all life stages of fleas as long as they come into contact with your dog. What people said about having fleas in your house or yard is soooo true. Treating your animals but having tons of fleas in those places is almost fighting a losing battle. If you had so many in your house that treating your dog and letting him be a magnet to kill those wasn't enough, I would think you'd be getting flea bites on your feet/ankles. But, the "bowl of water" trick really does work! I used a white dish, though, so I could see them easier just walking by the time I did it. The biggest thing to remember.....no bath 2 days before or after treating!!! |

| Yeah I'm not getting flea bites at all. (my husband says he can feel them while laying in bed but I think it's all in his head because I feel nothing) I also always wear socks and have yet to see a flea on them. I haven't seen them on either of my two other dogs (not Yorkies) nor any of my cats. It's really weird. He did still have fleas after the Frontline. I can't remember how long I waited to bathe him after I treated him though. In fact I treated all 3 dogs at the same time just in case. I'm thinking I may have bathed him too early but I can't remember. I also have treated the yard. I have lived in my house for 5 years and never had trouble with fleas until I got Brother. Question though about the water in the dish. Do you let the dawn liquid suds up or just drop it in the water after you fill up the bowl? |

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | I'd suggest checking to make sure you have fleas in your house in the first place. (You'll see them if you do!) If you have them, I'd have someone come to spray. They will guarantee their services and say that if you see fleas within I think it's 30 days they'll come back and spray again. From past experience, wait 3 weeks, and call them back and have them come again whether you do or not. Trust me on that one! You can Google the life cycle of the flea and you'll see why. (When they spray it doesn't get all the life stages--misses one or 2. That's why I say to have them come back.) Last summer it rained so badly here that everyone was getting infested with fleas. I only had cats then, and they are indoors only cats, but the fleas just came inside!! My landlord had to have it sprayed, and then was angry that I saw fleas 5-6 weeks after they'd been there because he had to pay to have them come back. You can find a spray and do it yourself, also, but I think if it doesn't cost too much, it's just better to have a professional do it (especially since they guarantee their services.) Also, watch your baby for tapeworms. Biting at and actually eating a flea is how dogs/cats get tapeworms. In fact, a flea is the tapeworm's middle man...the flea has to have eaten the tapeworm eggs in order for them to be able to hatch inside your pet. After you're sure fleas are gone, you can worm him with something like safe-guard (Dog Worms | Eliminate dog worms with Safe-Guard Canine Dewormer | Fenbendazole) because it gets rid of tapeworms too--you do have to do it 3 days in a row, though. |

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | I didn't put Dawn in the water. I just put little white plates/bowls all around the house with water in them next to baseboards--mine got fleas in them, but I didn't know about the night light deal or the Dawn. How I found out about it is my step-mom keeps bowls of water all around her house for her cats (5!!), and when she has fleas she knows it because they're in her bowls of water. My guess is, that's all you need....plain old water. The Dawn, I'm betting, is just to kill the flea when it jumps in, but the ones in my bowls were dead too--apparently they can't swim!! |

| Thanks so much bellasmomok. I definately will be putting down water tonight! I appreciate everyone's imput on my flea issue. I know it is a common issue but I've never had one pet have them and not the others. Well, we'll see if those nasty buggers are in the water dish tomorrow! Damn fleas! |

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | Ok, so.....any fleas in your water bowls? I was thinking about you today. It really is a weird situation with only one dog having fleas and not the rest....very weird indeed. |
