| can chicken give diarrhea?? hey guys if some of u remember, i got my new baby jack a month ago. he will be 3 in october. he has been eating canidae kibble all his life. wen he came we gave him chicken once a day because u can tell his mouth would water wen he saw Abby eating it. anyway we gave him wet food a couple of days and i noticed that the wet food gave him diarrhea so we took it away. well he still gets diarrhea once in a while... he'll be fine one week and then on the weekend he will mess up. he's had loose stool since about sunday n its now wednesday!! can it be the chicken doing this to him?? am i gonna have to feed abby her chicken in another room??? i dont wanna be mean.. he seems to LOVE the chicken. im starting to get worried. his poop is like yellow with a little clear mucousy thingy. some of it is also solid but its clearly easy to squish. wat can it be???

| I suppose anything that doesn't agree with the individual dog could cause GI upset. If he was fine on it though and is bothered all of a sudden, it could be something else. Diarrhea for 4 days isn't normal. Is he feeling okay otherwise?

| Maggie has a very sensitive digestive tract too. The slightest bit can cause her diarrhea or vomiting. I love to give them boiled chicken but I have to mix it with rice for her. It also could be several other things so maybe a visit at the vet's with a stool sample would be a good idea... |

| to be honest with u, i think its kinda weird. hes fine one week, but then next its a complete change. he usually gets sick around weekends... im starting to dread weekends cuz im always worried about him getting diarrhea. we are def taking him to the vet tmw and hopefully he will poop again some diarrhea (i know this sounds terrible) but this way we can send that loose sample to the vet. its not alll diarrhea its also looselike. its just weird how one day hes fine n the next hes not. elliemay (sp) sorry... i noticed that hes not that interested in his kibble that much anymore. he will sometimes wait until 2pm to eat the chicken with nothing in his stomach. should i just take the chicken away completely??? im really starting to get worried. or maybe in bn an over worrier the way i was wen i just got Abby. i took her to the vet a whole bunch of times and there was nothing wrong with her. they already know us... maybe its me??? but its not diarrhea diarrhea.... its also loose. if u dont mind, next time he poops i will take a pic and send it to u directly. im not sure how others will feel if i posted poop pics up?

| update hey guys, we took Jack in to the vet (by the way the diarrhea was gone the day i posted this ) we gave them a poop sample and he tested negative for parasites. i really dont know why it is that this happens?? Can it be that he's stil getting used to us? We've have him for about 5 weeks now tho.. IDK wat do u think?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | How have the stools been since? Occasional loose stools can still very much mean he has chicken allergies or sensitivities. I would stop feeding chicken altogether for a month, to test his senstivity. Aren't you also feeding cottage cheese though and other things? And, what about treats? Also, as has been mentioned before - if you're feeding more than 15-20% homecooked food, you're throwing the calcium-phosphorous ratio out of balance - so this also may contribute to his upsets.

| his stools have been great!! NO MORE COTTAGE CHEESE FOR EITHER actually. i realized too much of that cant be too good. they dont get fed chicken anymore. well actually if my mom makes chicken, i tell her to take abby to her room and feed her. I must admit if im eating chicken (boiled since im on my crazy diet) i mightttt give jack about 5 small pieces. but this has only happened once since i stopped the chicken. they both eat the kibble only. they still get their treats. i would say about 2 a day. i have come to realize that feeding them kibble all day is actually easier on me. not trying to be selfish but i get an extra 20-30 min of sleep every morning. haha im soo lasy
