| I give all my dogs shots except for rabies. It should be given by a vet so you have a legal record of it. For puppy shots, I use either Vangard (Canine Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus Vacine) or Ft. Dodge (Canine Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfuenza, Parvovirus Vaccine with Corona Vaccine). These are the same brands that my vet uses. Don't buy vaccines at your feed store or pet stores unless they are these brands. And don't give shots with Lepto. I never give mine the 7 way shots. These are just what I use. I've had two good friends who are veterinarians and they have told me to use these brands of vaccines. Make sure the vaccines are kept cold after you buy them (get an ice pack) and store them in the refrigerator when you get home. I have used Nemex 2 (Pyrantel pamoate) but I generally double the dose of what is recommended on the bottle. My vet doesn't like it, says she has seen puppies very wormy who were wormed with Nemex 2. I usually use Strongid T which is the same wormer only 10 X's stronger (is prescription only). This is also what my vet uses. I worm with this every two weeks when the puppies are young. Pyrantel pamoate only gets hookworms and round worms, so you might want to buy a second wormer that also gets whipworms and tapeworms. |
