| Dry Skin/Scratching Solution! I hope!! Okay so Mya had really itchy skin with no rashes or redness or hairloss or anything abnormal except some dandruff in the shoulder blade/back area. The vet gave me some prescription stuff that was to no avail. I got sick of all the doggie shampoos/conditions/supplements/foods not working so last night when she woke me up to potty, and she was nonstop scratching again I said that's it! I tried my own solution, and it has seemed to be working thus far! I put Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Skin Therapy Lotion on her. Its not the Gold Bond Powder, but it is a thick soothing lotion that I once used for myself on my dry skin/itchy condition on my legs. It has 7 intensive moisturizers and is non-greasy formula. I just spread her fur and rubbed it on liberally, trying to only get it on the skin and not massive amounts of fur she as! Then brushed it through. I will keep you posted if this therapy keeps working! Lauren and Mya

| Ive kinds of been thinking about using something for people as well.. Chewy has allergies, she gets little scabs when she scratches too much. I have a medicated antihistamine cream that gets rid of them in a day or 2 but I am kind of worried about using it all the time so i have cut back. When I put it on her though everything gets greasy... how have you been ably to keep it just on her skin?? Cant wait to hear how it goes... crossing fingers! I know how hard it is when they are itchy... |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Glad you found something to help. I had to put Cali on an expensive drug Atopica to get her relief. I may try your suggestion.

| Atopica Side Effects Johnny throws up after getting Atopica unless stomach is pretty empty and stays that way for a few hours after too. Medication can't help if it's thrown up.

| My Mom's Pomeranian went to the Vet about 3 months ago for dry itchy skin and the Vet put her on a fish oil/omega 3 liquid called "3Vcaps HP". She weighs 6.4 lbs. and the Vet said 1/2 squirt per day should do it. Well it worked - although it took a couple of weeks. (squirt on dry dog food and mix thoroughly) The dog's skin was flakey and not red - she scratched constantly and now doesn't scratch at all. Our Vet said he always recommends the 3V first before resorting to something like Benedryl. Hope this helps. |

People still think she is soft and smells good though It just adds some shine i guess. So far it has minimized the itching, she still scratches some-but i think it is in places I didn't put the lotion as it is hard to cover all areas when you have trouble getting under her massively thick fur . The area I covered this morning seems to be scratch free though!

| what's the difference b/w the 3v caps HP and non HP liquids?? anything? Because the caps HP has been discontinued and apparently has been replaced by 3v free form liquid? but that runs about $30 versus 15 sigh.

| itch relief I mix 1 part Neosporin and 1 part hydrocortisone cream in my hand and put it on her itchy spots on her back and neck. I have also sprayed her back with Benedryl spray. But the paw licking, I haven't found anything for. I swear, she only does it when I'm around. There's no sign of it when I come home from work. I wonder sometimes how much of it is self-grooming and comfort. She loves to lick our hands and face. |

I will have to try it... the cream from the vet is REALLY oily because it is actually an ear cream... i guess it has to be oily so it drips down into the ear. But I use it mostly on her belly. It is really quick.. a day or 2 and the scabs and itching are gone.. but they keep coming back. I actually think she is allergic to mold... we have lived in a really old house since last summer. She was not nearly this itchy when I lived with my parents. We are currently looking for a new apt so hopefully we will be away from all the things that came back positive on her allergy test... mold, dust and cockroaches. She is also REALLY allergic to grass but she was just as itchy in the winter as she is in the summer and there really isnt any grass around in NY in the winter. Have to remember to pick up some of that cream this week. Thanks | |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Itchy Skin My Vet recommended Metacam shampoo and it seems to have worked miracles for my tiny girl.
