| My Columbo won't eat :( I got Columbo AUG 14TH. I asked his breeder, and she said that he's just not used to the environmental change. However, I don't want him to starve to death. Thing is, when I feed him with my hands he'll eat it. After, it's been soaked in some water. I also tried, mixing his IAMS with Mighty Dog (only half). He only eats that that too when hand fed. I do not want him to get used to this. I want him to eat on his own. I also want him to only stick to eating dry food. I thought maybe he doesn't like his bowl, because we found that bowl in the cat section because it's a smaller bowl, and it's not the bowl. He drinks his water without a problem. The food however, he'll sniff it and walk way. |

I would consider changing food brands while he is young. Iams is not a good food contrary to popular belief... neither is Mighty Dog. Your breeder is right.. he is still adjusting. Layla would only eat out of our hands aswell when she first came home. It took a few weeks for her to feel secure so give him a bit to adjust.. if that is how he wants to eat for now.. that's ok... but within a week or so start demanding he eat out of his bowl. he might need you to sit with him at first and put his food on the floor as a transition. | |

| couple of questions How old is he Do not worry about wetting the food if he is young Just keep him eating whatever it takes As he gets comfortable he will eat dry food on his own Is he drinking enough I agree with the breeder the change of environment is very stressful but please make sure he is drinking and going outside to go pee |

| Do you have another dog? Competition is a great thing to get dogs to eat. I had a finicky eater (3 yorkies ago) and I would have to put the food on the FLOOR and not in a bowl. Weird, eh? We have to all admit they are little "bottom-feeders!" Other things - they have to love what they eat. I know it's difficult but try changing his food tosomething different but very healthy and nutritionally sound. If you want some ideas, just let me know!
