| Switching Foods I have read on this site as well as books that you should switch you "babie" food very gradually. I started the process of swithing food yesterday. I really didn't even "mix" it with the other food, more like just gave a little extra than the norm amount. Yesterday and today I added 1/16th of a cup of Royal Canin Yorkie Puppy formula and Harley loves it. So much so that he will stank and hunt for those pieces and then leave the rest. I leave food out all day and he will literally will go hours before he will eat any of the Purina that is in his bowl. Has anyone had there pet refuse their old food in the process of switching? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yeah, that happens a lot - they pick out the new stuff. Mix it in as best you can - if their poos are fine after a few days, most people just switch over to the new food. By the way, Royal Canin does have corn and fillers in it - so it can be quite a tough food for many yorkies and has caused allergies in a lot of yorkies here. So, after this bag - you *may* want to think about switching again. (I would) WELCOME to YT - so glad you're here and you're baby looks ADORABLE!!!

| After two days of only 1/16 of a cup of RC Harley woke up not himself and with horrible rumbles from his tummy. I gave him only his old food yesterday and he has been back to himself since yesterday afternoon. No more RC for him! |

| My two boys have very sensitive tummies too, so when I switch food, I stretch it out over 3 weeks. I start with just a few nuggets at a time, and increase with one or two a day. I know this takes forever, but it's the only way they don't get upset tummies.

| I just started switching Lola to Blue Buffalo puppy from eukanuba. The vet said to do about 25% new food. I think I did about 20% the first day. She ate all of the new food instead of the old as well. Then that evening she threw up and two days later had diarrhea even though I reduced it to just a few pieces. She has been fine ever since. I am going to keep slowly introducing it over the next month I think. |

| Maybe try a high quality food like Wellness. I feed it to Scooter and a lot of YTers agree that it is a really good food. I did not do a slow transition for Scooter because he refused to eat his old food, purina one, once I put wellness in his bowl. We never had stomach issues with the switch and I swear his coat is better and he is more lively because he is getting good food. Good luck!

This happened last month also, switching from RC to Wellness (sample) he hated it.Now with NB, he loved the sample, but I've noticed he gets bored really easy. I wish I could find a formula he loves and stick with it.

| I am in the process of switching my 9 week old baby from eukanuba with a spoon full of ceasers puppy food ( the canned) to NV prairie chicken with brown rice medley which she really liked the first time I gave it to her, she left her old food in the bowl and refused to eat it yesterday at all only the NV but today her tummy is rummbling loudly and she won't eat anything at all, and she is wanting to sleep a lot. now I don't know what to do. I hope your transition goes better. Good Luck |
