| advice needed on spay and vaccination Lexy is going to be spayed on Aug. 17th. The vet is also going to remove 4 baby canine teeth. She is current on all her vaccines except rabies. Should I have the rabies done ahead of time, or when she is at the vet to be spayed? It weems like a lot to put her through at once, but the vet's office said they do it all the time with little ones such as Chihuahuas. What do you all think?

| If she have the essential vaccination , you don't need the rabies shot before spaying . She is ok . |

| Elizabeth, I just think vets are way out of line recommending vaccinations the same day as major surgery. Plus teeth?? No way! My vet suggested the same thing. But I waited on the rabies vac. Bo had 4 teeth pulled also, as well as a dew claw removed. And believe me, it was plenty for him to deal with. There's always the possibility of a reaction with any vaccine. You're smart to ask for opinions about this. I didn't even argue with my vet. I just said we'd get the rabies vac after Bo was well recovered from surgery. Remind us on the 17th so we can be praying for Wexy!! Wexy, U gots 2 B spwayed??? Wike N D spwinkla?? Sounz weird! Y U mommy gots 2 spway U?? Mabbe U kin hide unner de bed. Dats wut i wikes 2 do wen mommy gits de bath weady! Wub, Turbo.

| Pixie was just spayed on Monday and she also had some retained puppy teeth pulled and she was just out of it when I picked her up. I think you are perfectly fine waiting to have the Rabies done after she recovers from her surgery. The one upside to them giving it to her during her surgery is that she'll be at the vet should she have any kind of negative reaction to it. So it's a total judgement call for you but I think you would probably be okay either way. Personally, I would wait and do it after the surgery.

| I decided to get her rabies done this Friday and leave her at the vet's office for a few hours afterwards in case she has a reaction. That way she will have time to get over it before she is spayed on the 17th. I am so worried about surgery on her because she is sooooo tiny. We are going to a different vet for the surgery due to our vet not using Isofluorine as the anesthetic.
