| diarrhea ok as some of u may know we got jack last Saturday. He was on canidse kibble. Well abby eats wellness turkey and chicken along with green beans. Well one jack got a whiff I this he wanted this and never looked back. I was scare about switching him too fast butbhe just wud not eat his kibble. Wellfast forward to yesterday jack didn't poop all day!!! Today in the middle of the Night he woke up and pooped. It was a mixture of normal poop an diarrhea. The second time was the same thing. Re third time was just diarrhea alone. I'm sure it's from the food change. I also happened to notice green beans in the poop. It was also very mucousy. Shut I b worried yet? I'm sure he has diarrhea cuz of the food change but shud I wait till tomorrow or what. He also doesn't have much of an aptite. His tummy must hurt. Wat can I do? Thanks |

| Well I am not very experienced in yorkies as I have only had mine for a few weeks but I have been to two different vets and both of them have told me how serious diarrhea is in yorkies and it can take their lives very quickly because of dehydration. If I were you I would have him/her seen by a vet right away. Good luck and I hope all goes well. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | You switch him too fast. You should mix 1/4 of new food with old, if no tummy upset occurs, the next day you can add 1/2 and 1/2. If any tummy upsets occur feed more of the old food. Finally, it's 3/4 new and 1/4 old. I would go back to the old, and feed them separately until he feels better, and then slowly switch. I cut the green beans in very tiny pieces.

| give him rice. if it persists they can have a teeny amount of pepto. (this is what the vet told me when my moms dog had the runs)

| Maybe you could mix some of the kibble in with the new food to see if that helps. I've heard rice helps too, but I've never tried that.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm not sure she should keep switching his foods, this isn't regular diarrhea, and wasn't cause by an illness, but was caused because she changed foods too fast. Adding another "new" food might make it worse.

| Jack had the same problem. One day during dinner a hush puppy fell off the table and he ate it before I could snatch it away. Then he had diarrhea..he also had blood in his stool. I had to take him to the vet and they gave him an antibiotic shot. He also had to take meds twice a day for a week. I make he doesn't get table scraps anymore to avoid that problem. |

| It is not at all uncommon for dogs to experience digestive upset as you have described when their food has been switched. I would put him back on the food he was accusomed to and swap him over gradually. |
