Sushi, my little cutie, does not like to eat out of his bowl!!! any bowl, i tried 3 different ones already. he approaches the bowl, plays with it as if it were alive, and then stares at it! so, i have started to take the food and putting it on the ground (after i clean the floor of course) and then he eats just fine...i am not happy with this because it just doesn't seem normal...is my yorkie ok? can i help him eat from the bowl? do your yorkies do this? any advice is helpful! thank you all so much!!! |

| tha t is how my KIrby ate when he was nnew to us( 16 weeks). I had a little place mat for him. and put the food right outside his bowl.....some times on the rim of the bowl too. Hi s bowl is ceramic and very shallow. Then after awhile most on the rim . Then I started putting it in the bowl too. IT happened again after he had been in the hospital for 4 days ...he was quite sick and and still recovering when he came home. I wish you the best.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Are they "deep" bowls? I have very shallow tart bowls for my guys, which I think is more suited to their height. Like these are only 1" high....

| Eating off the floor My Paco (5 months) is that way, too. He will eat a little out of the bowl but not nearly enough so I sit at the kitchen table and slide the food across the floor, one or two pieces at a time, and he chases it. He's just more interested in playing than eating so now it's a game. After he eats about 20 pieces from the floor he will eat a handful from my hand and then it's back to the chase the food game. I've read on the internet that some dogs don't like to eat unless they "work" for the food. I don't know if that applies to Yorkies or if it's even true but I've certainly found it to be true for my little sweetie. He will also do a variety of tricks for his own food. He would rather roll over for one piece that he saw me take from his bowl than just go over and get 50 pieces for himself. Another thing that sometimes works for Paco is to sort of tease him with the bowl as if it were a toy but since your sweetie already plays with it himself, that may not be helpful. I'm pretty new to this site and Paco is my first Yorkie so hopefully you will get lots of good advice from the experts. I have found that to be true whenever I have asked a question. Everyone here is really friendly and helpful. God bless.

| Mine does that too. She won't eat out of bowls. She has to eat out of a saucer. Even tho she pushes half of it onto the floor. I have to watch and push it back to the middle of the saucer. She's been like that since we got her. When I try to use a bowl, she just looks at me and cocks her head to one side like "What the?". |

| Our dogs take it out of the bowl and drop it on the ground before they eat most of the time, I don't think they like the feeling of thier face in the bowl. I would try a plate or something pretty flat.

| Lady is like that, too. She will only eat off a small plate. She's weird about water bowls, too. They have to be very tiny. If the bowl is big or has a design on the bottom, she barks and carries on. Gotta love 'em! |

| Gabby will not eat out of a bowl, plate..etc. I even tried putting her dinner on a place mat and nothing, so I hand feed her. Thats the only way she'll eat her dinner. She's my 2 year old rescue girl. |
