| P-U! He stinks! Johnny seems to get pretty stinky pretty quickly. He gets a bath at least once a week and smells so good for a while but after a day or two, he's back to being stinky! Does the food a dog eats make a difference in body odor? Any tips for helping him smell better? thanks

| I haven't a clue! Is it coming from his mouth? I have read other's mentioning this also from time to time and I can't imagine what would cause this if it is coming from the body. Strange. |

| if it's a "pee" smell you can use baby wipes to clean him. I clean both my boys everytime they go so they smell good all week. If it's just a dirty smell (food, sweat) I'd try brushing him a few times a week and adding a nice smelling conditioner.. this is almost a bath. Hope this helps

| I use "Perfect coat 8 in 1 spray" and a few strokes of the brush to freshen mine up! I bought it at petco and love the smell. Makes them soft too.

| I Knew I'd Get Help Thank you for your tips! I'll try them. It's not a pee smell but more of a sweat which I didn't realize dogs would have. When we visit my parents, they notice the odor right away. My last dog was a Siberian Husky and I don't remember any odor and she certainly didn't get a bath every week!

| What are you feeding him? Because if its soft dog food that does get in there hair and smells. You would need to wash his face after he eats. Possible even put alittle shampoo to clean the hair out. If he has a heavy coat it does get smelly faster. I have a little 2.8 lb dog with a very thick coat and she will smell almost in a week. We wash her and she stays pretty good for the most part. But males are good at getting stuff on there coats.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I think when there is a very obvious smell - it's really important to try to figure out exactly where it's coming from, if it's possible. Because sometimes - it's coming from their ears or eyes or mouth - and if it's one of those 3, it might be an infection. It could be food related too. But the bottom line - they really shouldn't be that stinky...

| When Penny was a puppy, we had to bathe her weekly. She just got stinky very quickly. Now, at 4 1/2 years old, she can go 3 weeks before getting stinky. How old is your Yorkie? |

| Charlie definitely has a musk about him after he plays around outside for even a little while. It's more pronounced in hot weather that in cold. It doesn't bother me but it makes my husband push him away. We can't help but pet him and I bet having five pairs of hands (me, my husband, and three kids) rub on him intensifies any musk he might have. Another thing to note is that I fed Charlie Solid Gold Wee Bits with salmon and bison and he loved them. But....I noticed that when he was on that food, that musk I'm talking about was putrid - even for me. My guess is that the kind of food they're on does make a difference. He's on Nature's Recipe for Toy Breeds now and he likes it just fine - and he doesn't emit any offensive odor. p. |

| Chewie is the same way. He doesn't have a putrid smell about him, just a greasy, "I need a bath again", stink. He doesnt even go outside, but he'll start to stink within a couple days after a good bath.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I agree, I'd make sure their are not any other issues going on first But if its just a little doggy oder I use Spa Scents Revitalizing Shampoo , which lasts about a week and inbetween baths I use (if needed) Spa Scents Bath Fresh Mist , for inbetween freshening up! Works well for mine...no stinky puppies! LOL |

| We're Not Alone More things to try...odor is more like sweat...could that be what you mean by "musky?" Johnny has allergies and has been eating sweet potato/venison dry food for a few months now...before than duck/potato kibble. Maybe that's it! I didn't want to try the salmon variety for the same reason Charlie's Mom mentioned. I don't want to experiment too much with foods as it's supposed to take 6-8 weeks before a difference can be seen. Next vet visit, I'll ask more.

| It definitely seems like Charlie has sweated after a good romp outside, so yes, I guess that's the musk I mean. He's still eating the Nature's Recipe and isn't emitting the smell he did on the Wee Bits, but playing outside...yuk! p. |

| My Suzi does not have a smell.... I agree that it needs to be further investigated. Make sure it is not a health problem.
