| mixing dry and wet food..??? I was thinking of mixing the artemis dry food I already feed my 6.5 month old with wilderness by blue bufallo canned wet food. Anyone thing this might not be a good idea. I heard that wet food is worse for their teeth. If this is true I would definitely just stick to dry. |

| Go for it Mixing wet with dry food is a great way to get your lil one to eat more when they are feeling sick or have low blood sugar. Wet food is NOT necessarily bad for their teeth however it does contain more sugar than dry food. Dry food is better for a dog's teetch because it helps to make them stronger. I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm a huge believer in dry kibble, because hard foods have been shown to stimulate the gums, and help prevent gingivitis, which is a large cause of tooth loss in dogs. I've seen over the years the difference in dog's teeth who have only had kibble, and from this experience alone, I believe it's better, however there is scientific data to back this up. See for more information: THE EFFECT OF HARD AND SOFT DIETS ON THE GINGIVAL TISSUES OF DOGS -- BURWASSER and HILL 18 (4): 389 -- Journal of Dental Research

| Your going to get all kinds of different opinions on this. You can't expect kibble to keep their teeth clean, so regardless of the food that you feed, you must brush their teeth and keep them clean. Canned food is much less processed than dry food and contains a lot more moisture, so in my opinion, premium canned food is much better for them than dry food. There are many on here who had their dogs on kibble their whole lives, and their teeth still had many problems... The key is to keep their teeth clean by brushing and caring for their teeth regardless of the food you feed.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | My reply is not about keeping the dog's teeth clean, but keeping the gingival tissues healthy.

| I feed both..but not mixed together. I leave a small bowl of James Wellbeloved kibble down all day for Pixie to Pick at and then she has a bowl of Natures Menu meat in the evening..seems to work well for her. I clean her teeth with a paste and a cloth and also use petzlife gel.

| I don't think any animal should get a diet of 100% hard or 100% soft food. Ellie gets soft food but also gets to crunch on raw vegetables all the time. If I fed kibble, unless there was a serious medical issue that required me to only feed one food, I would definately feed soft food also. Eating all hard or all soft food is just plain boring. I say go for it. Add the canned. Ellie's vet and nutritionist are both fine with Ellie eating mostly soft food. I see no problem with it and the moisture level is very good for her.

| Tucker is an extremely picky eater. The only way I can get him to eat kibble (which I know is better for his teeth) is to add wet food so I say go for it!

| This is what I've been doing to get Gus on scheduled mealtimes. I used to free-feed him and leave his kibble out all day. Since he got neutered, he seems to be gaining a bit of weight, and I'm concerned that he's eating too much of it. (Either that, or my son is going heavy on the treats while I'm at work!) To be on the safe side, I decided just to start feeding him regular meals twice a day. Mixing in the wet food was the only way I could get him to eat exactly when I wanted him to on the first day. (P.S. This has also resulted in scheduled poops, which is utterly awesome!) |

Like Ellie May's mom, I also give my babies stuff to crunch on like veggies and fruits. I don't feed canned, but I do feed homecooked.
