| Cosequin Users...In Here Please I am really starting to get concerned about Ellie's knee. She doesn't really have symptoms but it does crack a lot and she doesn't want to jump quite as much as she used to (good thing but I'm worried about why). Anyway, I do not want arthritis to set in because most pain medications are out of the question for her. LP surgery should never even need to be considered in this case and I wouldn't want her to be under for that long with her liver anyway. I know glucosamine is not a great choice for liver compromised dogs but it is better than something like Rimadyl later, soooo I think I am going to start her on something. I have heard so many people say that Cosequin is very expensive and I have found that to be true but KV Vet has it: KV Vet Supply / KV HealthLinks - Pet, equine & livestock supplies / Quality nutrition for you! If a Yorkie only needs 1/2 pill a day after the 6 week period, that is only $50 a year. What am I missing?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I know. I've been looking at it here and it's just not that bad AT ALL, compared to the "joint" supplements you see at Petsmart or wherever. I'm getting the Cosequin for Wylie, for sure. It's really economical - unless I'm missing something too....?

I thought it was hundreds of dollars a year. Fifty dollars a year is just not expensive. Her Denosyl is $225, so that is what I was expecting.

| They are selling Cosequin at Petsmart now and that might account for the price being so high. I got a bottle from my vet and it was only about $10 and lasted a long time. Simon is now on Synovi3 for his little knees and it was way more expensive. |

| I am semi-open to other products (like Synovi3) but still I think the only one backed by research is Cosequin. If someone knows something I don't about another product, by all means, post the info. And $10 for Cosequin...that is just not fair.

I'm only doing the Synovi since the ortho surgeon wanted to try it with Simon before surgery.

You and Nicole use it and I would really like to know if it has been proven better than Cosequin. Please let me know if you find out. I didn't know Simon needs surgery. Poor baby.

| Doing some research Synovi3 http://www.ivxanimalhealth.com/Detai...c-e90609287eec Cosequin http://www.nutramaxlabs.com/Research/Cosequin%20CE.pdf I need to read them more in depth but it seems like a good reference as to ingredients, use, etc. |

| We had our collie on Cosequin for over a year for thickening in her knees. We found there not to be a difference from when she did not take it. When I took her to a new vet she informed me that Cosequin is not successful in all dogs. She said it works in some but not others so she does not recommend it anymore. My sister's vet for her lab with hip dysplasia told her the same thing but said to try it. Her lab is showing a noticable improvement after being on it for 3 months. For so little a cost it may be worth it to give it a try.

I give 1/4 teaspoon every night in the PM meal. I homecook, so it is very easy to mix into the food. They never gave me a problem with it. I use the powder low allergy formula.
