Feeding twice a day now ok??? Ella is 6.5 months old now. I've fed her 3 times a day since I've had her, and was thinking that maybe it was time to switch to twice a day. Also, I feed her about half a cup a day, and she weighs 5.6 lbs. Is that sufficient??? Please help. Thank you sooooooooo much!!!!!!!

| Feeding. . . When I purchased Bella, I asked the breeder how often I should feed her. His response was that when we're hungry, we can always just go get something to eat. His position was that a bowl of food should be left out for her at all times so she can eat when she's hungry. I don't know if that's right, but it certainly worked for Bella. She's never had a weight problem at all - except now! I'm having to feed her constantly - those four little pups are getting so fat and poor little Bella is getting so skinny!!!

I agree, but I heard that doing just that makes them so much more picky. Lord knows, I have the pickiest dog in the milky way.

Yea...that's what I though...which is why I'm feeding her multiple times a day...and she eats it up like she's never seen food. I'm more concerned about the quantity versus the amount of times I feed her. Just wanna make sure half a cup a day is ok. I've been feeding her 3/4 of a cup...1/4 a cup per feeding.

Skeeter is 5 months and 3 weeks old now. I switched him to twice a day a few days ago. He was eating 1/2 cup of dry food per feeding. Now he eats a little over 1/2 cup twice a day. His interest in eating had deteriorated but by cutting out a feeding he is eating pretty well again. In fact he can be a little pig. My husband can't be swayed for giving him 1/2 of a dog biscuit 3 or 4 times a day so I think that supplements his meals too. I would LOVE to leave food out all the time but I have a geriatric Shi tzu and a monster german shepherd both on special diets. They would gobble up any food that was left out so I HAVE to feed them separately. Then there is Adie who is on regular food for adult yorkies. Skeeter eats puppy food. Good luck. I think you are doing fine.
