| when i got toby nuetered we talked about this with the vet (it didnt effect us, because he had both of his) but they would sort of have to "search' for the "missing one' and when you get them nuetered it costs a bit more (like we got toby done for 30 but if both testacles hadnt come down then it woulda cost 35...... not much more) |

| Sometimes one, or both, of the testicles won't descend. The neutering procedure becomes more invasive--like a surgery, and therefore more expensive. My yorkie puppy has two testicles the size of walnuts (which, by the way are being removed on Tuesday), but my toy poodle only had one testicle until a couple weeks ago. He was just over three months old when it finally dropped. Don't sweat it. They could very well drop by six months, but if not, the vet will be able to take care of it. |

| I have heard of this- in fact I was sold a pup with this problem. Sometimes one or both do not descend. Sometimes one or both are not even present. This is, from what I have heard, somewhat common with smaller breed dogs and usually occurs more in the really tiny ones according to my vet. Apparently when they are not present it is a genetic defect and you would not want to breed this dog (not that you are planning to). Missing one is refered to as monorchidism missing 2 is cryptorchidism (I probably did not spell this right!!!) I have been told by experienced breeders that you can usually feel the testicals by 6-8 weeks of age. Sometimes it takes a little longer. I am not saying that they are dropped by this age, just that when you rub under there, you can feel the little lumps. When you have your little guys fixed, if the other has not become present the vet will have to try to find out if it is there at all and remove it. An undescended testical left in place could possibly become a health issue in time according to different articles I have read. I did a lot of research on the matter when I found out that my little guy only had one descended testical. As long as you get him fixed though it shouldn't be anything to worry about. I am sure he is in very good hands with your vet.

| I just got a fella shipped to me for breeding and when he arrived, I noticed he didn't have both of his testicles. I took him to the vet, they only found one of them. The other one is in his abdomen. This boy was born in November, so he's already 7, almost 8 months old. Looks like he's not going to be used for breeding afterall.

| When I took Toby to the vet after getting him from the puppymill...they found his testicles never dropped either. Our vet told us that if Toby isnt' neutered...when he hits 8-9yrs old that they will become cancerous.

| newlywedwifey- that is the same thing that I was told and that is what I found when I checked the net for info. After I got the pup with just one descended testical I was sure to always ask a breeder about the testicals before I would even take the time to go see any future pups to use for breeding. I came across a lot of people who had no idea what I was talking about when I asked if his testicals were present. Some would say no, there not dropped yet. I did not mean to come across as asking if they were "dropped" just if they were able to be felt at all. This can be hard to determine sometimes too, especially on the smaller ones. Sometimes you feel one and it is hard to tell if the other is there, but from what I have seen myself, you can usually feel them by 6-8 weeks. They don't actually "drop" until much later. This is probably another good reason why many people want to purchase older pups when looking for breeders. The older they are the more you know what you are getting. This can be hard to because it is hard to find a really good quality older pup. One last thing, my vet told me that if they aren't present by 12 weeks...or she may have said 9weeks- that they probably won't ever be. I was even told by a breeder that they can drop and then go back up sometimes . I never got a chance to ask my vet about that- but I am sure that there is some information out there on that if it is true.

But yes, my vet did tell me that it is possible for a pup's testicles to drop and then go back up into the abdomen and drop again later on.

| late broomer? I was told by my vet that if it hasn't dropped by 12 weeks then it won't drop at all...but Bruno's left one just dropped last Sunday (at 7 months) so don't sweat it..just yet! I can see his right one but it doesn't like it's going to drop anytime soon...my poor baby has a retained testical! |

| I know that you can make it drop by doing a certain type of "massage" on the area. Your vet can show you how. I don't know if this is true, but I've heard that excess carrying can contribute to the testicles not descending. |
