| He will not eat! My yorkie is five months old. he has never been excited about his food. We are switching to wellness and I have been mixing the old and the new food to get him used to it. He now has diarrhea and is not eating any of his food. I tried to give him rice with chicken broth but will also not eat that. He will eat cheerios or treats. How can I get him to eat and get rid of diarrhea? did the new food cause this? |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It could very well be the new food has caused his stomach to be upset. I noticed this was a post from yesterday and am hoping the problem has cleared up by now. Is he eating again?

| No he is not eating. Well he will eat a few pieces here and there, but only if we put the food in our hand. He will not eat out of a bowl or dish. He will eat treats, rice, carrots and all of that no problems. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Does he still have diarrhea? I'd restrict his food to chicken and rice until that clears up. If the diarrhea has cleared up....I'd eliminate offering him anything other to eat than his dog food.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | If he is eating treats then he probably is holding out for them over his food. Maybe try giving him a treat only if he eats some of his food. Also is he teething? maybe his mouth is sore. Hope he starts eating soon. The best thing for a picky dog is another dog!!!lol Mine wouldn't dare not eat for fear one of the others would eat it.

Also, I agree totally with the post above. When we first got Mica she was so picky and refused to eat dry kibble at all. We got her at 14 weeks and she was very tiny only about 1 pound 6 ounces. The breeder had her on a special pumpkin and Innova diet. The Puppy Innova had to be grinded (in a small coffee grinder) and mixed with a tsp of pure pumpkin and mixed together with boiled hot water. It kind of looked like baby food. Mica due to her small size, had gone hypoglycemic once at the breeders so I didn't want to veer from this recipe until she grew bigger. She ate fine when give this brew but it was awful trying to switch her over to kibble as she got older. I wanted her on kibble to help keep her teeth strong. However, it was an ongoing battle until we got Kali from another breeder and she had the competition for the food bowl and it was then that she decided she better eat kibble or there may be none left for her. Haven't had a problem since she has another dog in the household for competition and Mica does great now with adult Innova. | |
