| HELP..What food, how much, is she an adult or still considered a puppy? Layla will be 8 months on 8/11 of this year. I just got her about a month ago and we are still feeding her a mix of the dry breeder food and Iams. I have been looking at all the suggestions. I just dont know when I pick a brand...is she still a puppy or would be considered adult. She is only 4 lbs. What would you all suggest? We are coming from Germany to the states and I want to get her on some good stuff. Also what brand is the best for our little ones --that are and will stay very small. Any advice is welcome...thanks so much! |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | There isn't any problem feeding them adult formulas over puppy food. Iams is really not the best food. Mine are fed Wellness. I'd look for a food without grains as those can cause itchies in many. Other food choices would be innova or candiea. Generally the portion amounts are provided on whatever dog food you chose. It can range from 1/3 to 1/2 cup a day.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I feed wellness...fish and sweet potato. Sounds nasty, but they all love it. Be forewarned...don't get kisses immediately after meal time...fish breathe. There is also a lamb and rice formula people use too. Either would probably be a good choice.

| I feed Wellness dry puppy food - Maggie never really liked the Wellness wet food. Soooo, I spoil her with bits of boiled chicken, Wellness dry food, and pureed sweet potato mixed up together - heated for about 15-20 seconds in the microwave - and she licks the bowl clean

YT 2000 Club Member | I feed Maggy May Wellness just for puppies as well, she does really good on it and loves it! She's 8 months old now and I spoke to my vet about when I should switch her over to adult Wellness, he said personally with Maggy and all she's been through, he'd wait another month, but she came from a horrid situation when I got her, so maybe he wants her on the puppy food a month longer just to get all the extras in the puppy food. Good luck to you!

| Thanks for that info! I am a similiar situation. I just bought Layla and it was from a crappy breeder. She had a yeast infection and ear mites in her ears. Now she is ok and we are traveling back to the states in the next couple weeks. I want to get her on some good stuff and I think I will leave her on puppy food for a little while longer or at least till I meet with a vet in the states. Thanks so much....PS: How often do you feed your puppy? Or do you leave the food out? Not sure about how to do that and what is best...? |
