| Overnight stay after neutered? Hi everyone, I would like to get Duke neutered and recovered hopefully by the end of August but have no idea where to go. We recently moved and can't really take him to our old vet. A friend of mine recommended hers and they would keep him for 2 nights after the surgery, have anyone have experience with this? We are looking for a vet in either north or central jersey if you know of any. Thank you.

| The only way an animal should stay after surgery is if there is someone there, awake with them the whole time. It is dangerous to leave them alone. Ellie was spayed (more invasive than a neuter) and had a liver biopsy on the same day and came home a few hours later. They are staffed 24/7 so she could've stayed, but it just wasn't necessary.

| i agree with previous posts. i changed vet when coco was about to be neutered because my old vet refused to let me take coco home after neuter even though nobody was going to look after him during the night at the vet. their reason was that he needs "quiet time" and rest after the neuter. but they'll leave him all by himself in a cage from 6PM to 8AM?? no way. what if something goes wrong?? i rather be with him and take care of him... i'm so glad i made the decision to take him home the same day. he rested in his own bed and i made sure he was comfortable.

| Brody had to stay the night before to make sure that he didn't eat or drink. He stayed the night of to make sure there were no complications. He came home ASAP the next day. While I thought this was a little weird, it made sense and gave peace of mind. We had the procedure done with a vet that's also a 24/7 emergency clinic.

| thank you for your responses so far, i called the hospital and they said they are staffed 24/7 so someone will be there with him overnight should he gets neutered there. i hope that by him being there, they can medically monitor him better, although i do wish that i can watch him overnight.
