Thanks for this thread..
I'm taking Toby in soon to get neutered and teeth extracted as well.
We are lucky that he will be getting laser surgery so there will be no wounds/stitches..

Apparently the vet has told me it's not too much more expensive than the regular surgery procedure, cause I had figured it would have been way more money to do it that way...

thanks again..

hope all of you are having a great summer!

Hi I hope you don't mind being asked how much is the laser surgery. I was given a price of $400 for my Diddy to be neutered. I will have to find out if they do the laser surgery here in Ontario at my vet.

I'll have to call and ask, they didn't quote me a price yet, and the vet will also be charging me for the baby teeth extraction, so I'll try to get all those prices for you in a few days... My Toby's not even 5 months yet, but we'll be getting on to the vet in a month or two..
I'll try to call soon and let you know..

I think that the laser surgery is about the same except they seal the skin with the laser, therefore no stitches & wounds afterwards... I'm sure he may be in a bit of pain still though... I'll keep you posted on what I can find out.

Thanks!

Im glad someone started thi thread. Jenny and Jake are getting fixed on Friday. I'm not too worried about Jake, he's two and 5lbs. Jenny on the other hand is a petite 7 month old. 2.5lbs. The vet is very trusted, we came to her last year during our vacation in Kiev, and she pulled Jake's teeth with ease. Jake forgot about the ordeal the next day. The vet said for Jenny it will be more work because she will have more stitches, therefore on pain meds, and anti-biotics. She will ahve her teeth pulled under the same anestesia. She said it's a total of 10 days recovery? I thought it was a little long. and 5 days on the anti-biotics. Im just very nervous about this whole surgery thing, but I know it's for the best... Im so worried..

Default what to expect after just being neutered? Tanner's update

Tanner is slowly improving! breathing seem fine now and the shaking as stopped. It took a lot of coaxing to get him to eat a nibble this morning and even more coaxing to get him to drink!! Tanner been lying down all day and whined every so often.. this morning he licked my hand and his tongue felt so dry and I could feel the heat so that when i started coaxing him to drink (definitely was dehydrated this morning). Hopefully he will get back to normal very soon and be his hyper little self again.

See if you can get him to lick an ice cube or a damp face cloth if he doesn't want to drink, especially if you guys in Nfld are going through the same hot muggy weather as NS. I would say it is more important for him to drink than to eat.

I just had Mickey neutered last monday. He's alsmost 6 lbs. They did the surgery at 11 and by 2 they had him drinking water and he did fine, at 530 I picked him up. He whinied on the way home alittle but as soon as we were home he was acting fine. He was not shaky, sleepy, or anything! He's not as hyper but he's been fine. They didn't send pain meds home, but he didn't act at all like he needed them but I gave him benadryl that night to help him sleep. His stitches are tiny and have been clean. He has 3 little stitches that come out thursday. My vet did the surgery with the laser so I think that helps cut down the pain and swelling. When I brought him home I gave some neutracal and water and then later a little yogurt.

wow $55.00 is a good price! I paid $165.25 and they wanted me to pay $55.00 additional dollars for a routine bloodwork! but I declined.
I think neutering and spaying should be more affordable!

I agree. My mom in NJ is getting her dog spayed and it will cost her no less than 700.00! That's crazy!!!!

Default Very Lethargic

Johnny was very lethargic after his neutering. He slept all day and wasn't very hungry either. He ate some oatmeal. I didn't want to give too much because I was afraid he'd throw up.
I slept on the floor with him that night and he was back to normal by the next day.
He wasn't supposed to jump or do steps for several days either.

yeah thats why were doing BOTH dogs here in Kiev, and it will cost us less then 500$ all together for fixing them, the anestesia, meds, and Jennys dental work. The US made a business out of vet medicine..and to find at least good quality care is harder than running a marathon.

I'm taking Duke to get his pre-op exam tomorrow. I was told that they don't do the blood test before the exam but I can ask for one to be done.
Also, they said he doesn't need one because he is still young, 9 months.

So if I wanted one what kind of blood test should I ask for?
