I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The only time you need to give "treats" is when you are training. For example, if she goes potty in the right place, or if you are training her to "sit" or something of that nature. I train Joey quite a bit and just use his regular food for training, because the vet said Joey was too chubby. Many people like cherrios because they are so tiny, and are convenient size treat for Yorkies.

| Sometimes it takes the yorkies to like treats. It seems some don't like treats. I took an obiedence class and my yorkie wouldn't take treats even when I split them. I ended up having to take turkey and cheese to cut in small pieces to use as a training tool. But I would only use it as a tool to train in the beginning.

| Tatum loves Cheerios! I taught her to chase and catch a soft-sided frisbee in about 20 minutes by using those! What's good about them is they aren't a lot of "junk filler". But yes, you want to only use treats when training to do something. Tatum gets a treat almost every time she goes potty outside. And sometimes we just sit and do tricks for treats. Now, when we were going through obedience school, our trainer actually had us bring a cooked hamburger patty (torn into teeny tiny pieces) to give the dogs while in class. She said that to teach as much as we were trying to teach, the dog needed a very "special" treat... not just your ordinary one you use at home. Worked like a charm too! Good luck on your treating and training!

| Cheerios I was wondering about Cheerios also, like the health pros/cons. There's not much to cheerios, so I think they should be a good treat while training? That's what I'm going to use for my training rewards Anyone have any bad side effects from using cheerios? Thanks!

Donating YT Addict | My Ozzy loves cheerios! I use those as my potty treats and when I took him to obediance class we used them. He has never had any issue with them. He eats about 3 a day...each time he potties (and he loves the honey nut version but you should probably stick with plain if you can get away with it )
