So after taking the dogs to the park i dropped them off and went to grab some food with hubby, i get home and my cousin saids he gave them some icecream cause they looked hot, i told him diary products are not good for them and he says to me hmm theres nothing wrong with icecream!!!!!!

How bad is icecream? will they just get like upset stomach? sigh

I have given zoey a bit of breyers. Nothing happened. As long as you don't over do it then it should be ok.

Tell him next time please don't feed them. Rediculous how people think it's ok to just do what they want with someone's dog.

Portion control and there is nothing wrong. As long as no chocolate is it!

Thanks !!! and yes he got a ear full!!! sad part he said he was doing something nice for them lol. So i sat down with him and explained to him about all the bad food for dogs etc and also some other no-no's. After talking to him i told him that it was part my fault for not taking the time to explained to him what he could and couldnt give my dogs even though i was literly gone for like 20mins last thing on my mind was that he was going to feed them, he just stayed home cause he wanted to play PS3 lol cousin is 21. anyways thanks for your response.

I give my girls a taste of low fat vanilla ice cream when it is really hot. They love it and it has never upset their tummys.

I give Zeus a little scoop of Breyers Vanilla every once in a while too...he loves it and has never had any problem from it.

i would worry about the high fat & lactose hurting their belly. plus ..make sure it wasn't ice cream sweetened w/splenda or other sweetners. that stuff will kill them.

That splenda stuff will kill us too...ick taste so nasty. I don't know how people use that stuff.

i had a close call with splenda cookies. i caught my mother about to feed them to him. she didn't know the danger. i was furious.

I'm an ice cream sharer. Only a few licks though. Usually let them clean the bowl, although I don't eat it very often.

We almost never have ice cream but do have frozen yogurt occasionally. The boys do get a couple of licks. In fact the only way you could avoid sharing with them would be to hide away in a locked room...and listen to them complain. They love frozen yogurt.

i feel better, that most of u share some ice cream/ yogurts with ur babies, dont think ill make it a habit but its nice to know a little once in a while wont be bad for them.

I was told it was perfectly okay to give Winston small amounts of Breyers All Natural Vanilla ice cream...after he has low blood sugar/seizures to stabilize his glucose level. I've often wondered if it would hurt to give him just a taste on a regular basis to try to prevent the hypoglycemia in the first place. I'd do anything to keep him from having those episodes ever again...rather than waiting til they happen and then treating them. Poor baby boy...I use NutriCal...but it makes him vomit each and every time. Wonder why that is...

Most dogs would do fine with a little bit of ice cream.
It is the amount given and the particular dog's sensitivity to certain foods that would be the question.

Some dogs can't really tolerate any dairy, so it would be out for them.
I also wouldn't recommend feeding it to dogs with pancreatitis issues unless you are sure they can handle it.

While I would not recommend that anyone feed their dog any type of artificial sweetener, the ASPCA does not believe that Splenda causes any serious side effects this far (except maybe GI upset). Xylitol is the worst. If your dog gets a couple of bites of something with Splenda, they should be just fine, but I would not recommend intentionally feeding it.

I would not give my babies ice cream due to the FD&C Blue 2 and 3 which are used in the ice cream can cause cancer or tumor to pets. They are toxic to our babies!!! So it's a no no at all!!!
