| How much Pepcid? I was just wondering how much Pepcid an 8.5 lb yorkie is allowed in a 24 hour period. My dog Sam is just getting over pancreatitis and he's been on 1/4 tablet of 10mg of Pepcid every morning, but only in the morning. Well, I feel like it's wearing off by the time we settle in for the night b/c 2 nights ago he vomited a tiny bit of bile. He's done this before if he hasn't eaten all day. I talked to my vet about this and they said to try the Pepcid at night just this once to see if it helped and it worked b/c he slept all night without any problems! They don't really want him being on this 2x's a day so I was thinking of trying to just give him the dose at night before bed instead of in the morning b/c during the day he's eating fine and has a full belly. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, how much do you give? Thank you!

| When my boys have had to take it they got 1/4 tablet twice a day. I gradually stopped the evening dose and slowly moved up the morning one to mid-morning/early afternoon so it would last through the evening.

| Madison is about 7 lbs and he gets 1/2 tab once a day. I'm supposed to decrease it to 1/4 tab once a day, but I haven't done it yet. OH, and it is the 10 mg (Pepcid AC ....the original, not extra strength or whatever they have out now).

| Thanks nvnvgirl! They're telling me that they want him on Zantac b/c they feel more comfortable doing that twice a day. So now I'm going to CVS to pick up a prescription for him...never thought I'd be saying that! They also want me to continue going for fluids everyday or every other b/c he needs to be completely hydrated to heal the pancreas faster. He drinks on his own the way he used to when he was healthy, but I guess it's not enough. How much do yours drink a day would you say?

Senior Yorkie Talker | Pepcid dosage Hello , My yorkie is 16 months and just started on it. He weighs 6-9 pounds and also has 1/4 in morning. Has to be on an empty stomach , you didn't mention that so that's 1 thing to consider. Not sure if its working been 6 days . First day he threw up the yellow bile which is acidity . So far fingers crossed it will work. I hope yours feels better also. You may want to check with your vet also. Much good healthy for your fur baby. <3 |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Another way for drinking. My yorkie has ice chips as well. Do yours like lick their mouths (sorry don't know how to describe it ) Mine does since taking pepcid. The ice is a great way to add some drinking to them through out the day. Also like always ask your vet before doing anything different. |

The dose for Pepcid is 5-10mg per dose, and should be given TWICE per day for reflux/GERD. It does not have to be given on an empty stomach. Btw lsd989 - when is your kiddo throwing up bile...in the mornings, or...? Save

Senior Yorkie Talker | Pepcid dosage Hey Willie's Mom That is the dosage my vet gave me . So , I have to listen to his guidance, but thank you for the info. We all hope this helps my precious Dallas. I go by what my vet says. If I have other info. corresponding with the illness I take those up with my vet before making a decision. I value all of the top notch advice and guidance everyone on this site has given me and I've researched. But they make the finale decision. I will keep that in mind. Hope the babies are well. Thanks for you comment and expertise. <3 |

| The empty stomach thing is probably related to omeprazole (Prilosec). Most omeprazole preparations should be taken on an empty stomach. There are no such restrictions on Pepcid. Maybe the vet is confusing the two medicines? |

| Thanks everyone for all the info on what to give a Yorkie who has Pancreatitis. Both the vets I have gone to have never mentioned giving my guy Pepcid AC. He has been on all types of medicine, prescription diets, probiotics and nothing has worked for him. I even tried Steel cut oats, which worked for my Greyhound, but even that didn't work. I have to admit that I haven't found a really good vet here in Arizona. My Yorkie, Curtis, has had liquid d for almost a year now. He gets a little better at times but nothing has worked for him. I am going to try the Pepcid AC starting tomorrow and will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again - |

He has already been to the vet several times over the past year. He has had many tests done & was diagnosed with Pancreatitis. I am going to try the pepcid ac today and see if that helps. Also going to put him back on the prescription diet food (even though that didn't help previously). | |
