| A bile acid test is not necessary but it is a good thing to do. Make sure that your pup is at least 6 months old, is on a moderate protein diet (not high), hasn't taken any meds in about 2 weeks and hasn't been sick recently if you want to get one done. These things could possibly skew the results. Not all dogs will have symptoms, especially if it is MVD>

Honestly if it were me, I'd wait just a little longer, as long as she is acting normal?? They say, under 6 months of age having a BAT *might* not really be accurate. So, as long as she IS acting normal, I'd wait just a little bit, but that JIMO | |

| If your dog exhibits any of the following signs: pickiness, lethargy after eating, disorientation, UTIs, dark urine, hypoglycemia, puppy that does not respond immediately to Nutri-Cal when having a hypoglycemic epidosde, etc. then a bile acid test should be done. As Ellie May described, dogs who have MVD may not exhibit symptoms until later on, so a bile acid test should be done when the dog can handle it. I recommend that all yorkies be bile acid tested at 6 months of age even if no symptoms are apparent...If symptoms are apparent, then BAT should be done earlier... It sounds like your baby is not exhibiting any signs.
