| What to expect after neutering We have been waiting to have Scooter neutered because the vet said he will have to be "quiet" for around 2 weeks after the operation and wear a no-lick collar. There is no way we could make Scoot be quiet and not jump on furniture. He plays so hard with our other dog, Bitsy, that he is constantly on the go. What is a realistic waiting period?

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | i had our yorkie male neutered and he was ok in a few days.. we used the e collar.. he might chew out his stitches, and get an infection, so using the collar is the best thing.. my vet was wonderful though and he recovered very quick. he was quiet for 2 days, then back to his normal self.. totally healed in 2 weeks. the collar was used for 5-6 days, and only off when he was being watched.. my male did not have an iv . he got shots before and after for pain.. i love my vet jumping on furniyure will be ok.. the risk is to the stitches being licked or chewed by himself or another pet in the house.. best wishes..

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey was better in about two days, no baths for two weeks. Vet said he didn't need the collar, but we did use some clear deodorant around the area so that he didn't lick. I've read that some people use a baby's onesie to prevent licking, but didn't know about those at the time. Joey had to wear the collar at another time, and he seemed to tolerate it fairly well. I would try not to have any rough housing for at least a week. We have steps for Joey because I don't think it's good at anytime for them to jump off the couch or beds.

| Madison was done on June 10th. He went in at 8:45 am and I picked him up at 4 PM. He was fully awake, able to walk (although he was a little tottery) and there was no bleeding or discharge, nor sutures or dressings. When I got him home, they told me I could give him half his normal amount of food (b/c he is small; larger dogs I think they want you to wait til after 8pm); which he took with no problem at all. He seemed quite comfortable (they'd given him Morphine as a pain shot b/c they normally give a non steroidal antiinflammatory as pain shot that lasts 24 hours (so they say), but he has gastric issues, so they decided it might be risky to do that and opted for the MS instead). I used a onesie on him when he first got home and over night b/c I wanted to make sure he didn't lick the area, but he really never seemed to be inclined to do that. He slept on the bed with me all night without any problems and the next morning, he jumped off the bed, onto the bench at the end, then to the floor...and raced outside....I couldnt' stop him. He and Max ran around, peeing on every shrub they could and then ran inside, ready for breakfast. I think he tired out a little bit more than normal the first day, but since then, he's been his usual, crazy self, racing around, jumping and playing. I kept him out of water and had him groomed finally on day 10 which they told me no bathing for 7-10 days. He's had absolutely not one single problem. I'd love to see the Yorkie that you can prevent from running, playing or jumping (and I DID try!!!) once they feel good. They recover amazingly quickly! Good luck with yours!
