Thumbs up Homecook

(the bison and lamb have no hormones or chemicles added) I boil the liver, drain and let it get very cold before grounding in the food processer. I cook 3 cups of brown rice with 1 cup of lentils and 1 cup of split peas till crisp tender then drain and rinse in cold water and drain again. I steam very quickly a large head of broccoli and put directly in the freezer to stop the cooking and to cool fast. (It goes in the processer too. I finely chop 8 fresh carrots in the processer. I cook the rest of the meats in a large skillet. I also put the meats in the processer till chopped small. You will need a BIG pot to put it all in so you can properly mix it. I put this in 1 qt. zip-loc freezer bags and freeze.
They get either 1/8 cup twice daily with 1/4 boiled egg and a little oatmeal mixed into it for breakfast and 1/8th cup with some fish and cheese for dinner. (Both meals should total 1/4 cup each) If I don't add anything to this mix, I then use 1/4 cup.
This may sound like too much to bother with for some of you, but it isn't, and it's for a very special cause.
Yes, bison and lamb are good quality meat. I highly recommend these meat too. I also give them fish from time to time. I don't give them beef cause I read from a site (I lost the site) that beef is not good for yorkie and some dogs are allergic to beef. Lamb is good but it's IMO high in calories. I only give them on a special occassion.

Btw, your dog is gorgeous. I love his cut style.

Please let me know when you order the cookbook. Remember that you should add flaxseed, sun flower seeds and hemp seeds coz they contain Omeaga 3 and Omega 6 which help to achieve shiny and healthy coats.

The cookbook has human and dog recipe in it.
I don't know if the dog recipe are balanced for long-term or have supplement guides though.

You can post the recipe and ask some advice from yorkie experts here or consult to your veterinary.

There is a thread here posting what you should not give to your maltese and what are good for maltese. Good luck.

Actually, Ellie has a nutritionist that created her recipe for me.
I just don't know if the recipes in the new Yorkie Talk cookbook will be balanced enough to use long-term as some people want to do.

Does anyone know?

There's only a couple recipes that I would consider healthy for day-to-day nutrition, most of the other recipes are meant for treats, and include such things as biscuits, cookies and cakes, some being healthier than others.

Thanks, Nancy.
I've been wondering about that.
In fact, there is the sticky with recipes in it and I don't think I could find even two or three in there that I would feed more than a couple times. They are more for treats or questionable ingredients are used.

Yeah, I agree with this, so many people are so strict about their dog food, but the homemade treats are terrible. I just don't think the recipes need as much fat and sugar as some call for.
