| Best Food? And a health ?.... So, I'm curious, Rox was doing great eating natural balance up until a week or two ago. Now, Tim and I are lucky if he eats at all We're thinking about what food to try, and I was hoping for some advice/opinions/ideas. Anything would be greatly appreciated. One other thing, he's shaking his head a lot and water (or that's what we think) is coming out of his ears. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. We haven't given him a bath for at least a week, so I'm not sure how water (or whatever it is) is getting in there. Thank you guys so much for taking the time to read this. Hopefully someone out there can help. Yorkietalk is the best and has answered so many ?'s I've had in the past. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I feed Canidae All Life Stages and have been happy with it. I used to feed them the Nutro Natural Balance and had good luck with that too. Don't panic too much if it doesn't seem like they're eating a lot. Yorkies don't eat much. I feed my 10 pounder 1/3 cup twice a day to maintain his weight. That's not much. As for the ears, I haven't run across that one. I'd consider a trip or at least a call to the vet. If there's an odor, I'd do so even sooner.

As for the 'best food,' that's a matter of opinion and what is best for YOUR dog. What may be best for one, may not be the best option for the next. There is a sticky at the top of this section with some links to some of the more preferred manufacturers--many will send you samples of coupons if you contact them. You will have to do trial and error to determine what is best for your little one. A good site to use in your research is: Dog Food Review Ratings It will link you to several different sites that examine various foods and diets, including commercially processed, home cooked and raw. | |

| We have been through a million foods and right now we're on Wellness Just for Puppy and Wellness Core and I am LOVING it! Their poops are small and firm and not stinky... they smell better and they love it.

| I am just switching my food over now from canidae to natures variety. Someone on here suggested it but I couldn't find it anywhere until now. I'm switching from canidae because I noticed the other day that there were some fine plastic string sticking out of the kibble. Everyone's different when it comes to the dog foods but like the other posted there is a list of super premium foods on here. As for the head shaking my puppy had that and it was because he got some water in his ears during bath time and ended up getting an ear infection because of it.

| Ear infection needs vet care immediately or there can be serious complications to it. It is easily treated at the early stage. I don't rinse water on my yorkie's head anymore to avoid water from flowing in to his ears. I bath his body and then I use just a little shampoo on a damp face towel and wipe his face and then rinse the cloth and wipe few more times to clean out the shampoo. That way, no water goes in to his ears.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | First, WELCOME ! Is this a PUPPY? If this is a puppy who has lost his appetite and has water coming out of his ears - PLEASE TAKE HIM TO THE VET. As for food, Natural Balance is fairly good. How old is he? Do you want to stick w/ dry - or are you willing do to canned and/or raw?

| Wellness I feed my Yorkie Wellness. I switched to it a few weeks ago after a bunch of research. I swear his coat is so much softer. The food he was on before made his coat more wirey and I didnt even realize it. I feed him Wellness Just for Puppies because he is under a year. They offer treats too which he loves. I dont even have to add anything to his dry food, he loves it so much he eats it plain which he never did before. |

I've trieds so many different brands and Maggie has tried everything at least once. I tried Cesar wet puppy food...not the best but she loves that. I tried Wellness Puppy food and she loved that for three days now she won't go near it. I tried Solid Gold puppy food - loved it at first but now she won't eat it. Also tried to mix the dry food with Nutri-cal and that only worked a few times... NOW, I boil some chicken and mix it with rice and carrots. This has been okay for two weeks now...fingers crossed! Good luck with your baby

YT 2000 Club Member | I feed Wellness Just For Puppies (Now called Wellness Super 5 Mix) and Maggy loves it and does really well with it, it's a wonderful food as well. As for the watery discharge coming from the ears, have you taken your lil one to the vet to have this checked out? if not, I'd do that, could be an infection. Perhaps that is why they won't eat, could be in pain. Good luck to you and your lil, one.
