| Help with Food Hi everyone- I have a 6 year old female yorkie and a 7month old shorkie. My shorkie is very easy going... my yorkie, not so much! I am having a lot of problems with her getting her to eat her food and her allergies. She has terrible allergies that result in a lot of scratching, licking, hot spots and hair loss. A year and a half ago, after trying all of the high-end foods I started making her food- lamb, brown rice, carrots and peas. She loved it. Her allergies have never gotten totally better, but now we have some better times. She has now lost interest in her food and refuses to eat. I have tried fresh chicken, white rice, all kinds of fruits and yogert. I had been reading a lot of the posts on here and decided to try Natural Balance this week. I got the duck/potatoe dry food- she refused to eat any of it. So, I got the NB organic (chicken)- dry and moist food, again she refused. I don't know what to do anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions? I very much appreciate your help! Thanks!!! |

| refused to eat I know when mine totally refused to eat I foung out they had worms. They will not eat if they have them. Check the stool and look for little white segments that look like rice. They can get it by eating rodents and from fleas. I did have to treatt the dogs with deworming medicine I got from the pet store and now I wash them with citrus shampoo and put 4 drops of tea trea oil in it and it keeps the flees away. I have had no problems since. Good luck.. |

| Have you had her Bile Acids Tested before? This looks at how the liver functions. She may be refusing to eat b/c she doesn't feel well This may be just a stretch though, but it's good to check anyway, a BAT is not really expensive $40 to $100 depending on where you live. Next, I home cook and so does my Mom, we both have picky eaters and mine do have liver issues, BUT we add raw pureed Green Peppers to their food and WOW - what a difference, they eat NO PROBLEM |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Are you willing to try Natures Variety Raw Frozen? It can be wonderful for skin issues and many dogs love it. There are some who don't like it, but most do. But, I agree /w TLC - check health first and foremost.

| Hi everyone, Thanks for your help. I did get major bloodwork and exams done on my yorkie just to make sure that there were no health issues, everything came back good. My vet thinks that the home cooked food is the best thing for her, but her allergies are still so severe. I had allergy testing done on her and not alot came back... corn. She only ever had corn when she would steal some of my popcorn. I now don't let her steal any, but there has not been any improvement. I just don't know what to do. Oh, I did try raw food and she didn't like it. Maybe I should try that again? Thanks again! |

| RAW would be my first choice, but mine have liver issues so I had to change back to home cooking. When I did feed RAW, I feed it still alittle frozen. I let the NV medalion sit on the granite counter top for about 7 mns. just enough for me to slice it up into little bits. Mine seemed to like it better this way, they didn't care for it completely thawed out But I swear by the raw Green Peppers (pureed and lots of them) mixed into the home cooked way - I don't know what it is about them, the smell or taste but it gets them to eat up And I know its the peppers b/c if for some reason I don't put enough in the mix, my TJ sniffs it and walks away |

I use: carrots, green bell peppers, zucchinni, yellow squash, celery I also feed organic frozen green beans, but I just cut them up into little bit size pieces. You'll need to add a carb, brown rice is good. And meat: you can rotate with chicken, turkey, beef, lamb - all very lean though And finally the supplements: Healthy Powder is what alot of people use (Dr. Pictarin) | |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I'm really excited with this home cooking feeding , I just want to have everything ready, to read I find out what can I give him and what I can't before I do the switch, once I start feeding healthy I would not want to go back, either for not having time or not planning correctly. Thanks for all the info. I'm sure will be asking more questions.

| Steam some green beans with summer squash and add this to some baked sweet potato. If she eats this, then stick with it for 4 days. (giving nothing else at all). If after four days she is still eating and hasn't gotten worse with itching, then you can add some cooked bison, beef or lamb. (I use free range since they have no chemicles). As far as fresh veggies go, ALWAYS soak them in bleach water for 15 minutes. 40 drops of bleach to each gallon of water. All our veggies have way too many pesticides, which can cause skin problems and allergies. |
