| Bad teeth :( I'm a little angry that my regular vet didn't point this out to me earlier (always saying Layla's teeth look great and healthy!) but the new vet I went to on Saturday told me (and showed me) that one of Layla's back molars is completely brown, and a little loose. He said it will eventually be very painful for her, and the infection could get into her blood and attack her organs. He said the best thing to do would be to have it removed, and that it's something I should think about. I will bring it up when I take her in again on Monday. Has anyone else had to have a tooth pulled at such a young age? She is only 2 and a half years old. I do brush her teeth (although, not regularly enough) and I guess I wasn't getting the back ones good enough. I feel like such a bad mom right now for making her have to go through this! I think I will be investing in some Petzlife soon because I've heard such good reviews from here. I'm just looking for anyone else who has had to get their yorkie's teeth pulled. Will it affect her at all? Will it be really painful for her?

YT 1000 Club Member | linz06, Maggie had one of her back molars pulled at 1 1/2 years she is now 2 but it had come in sideways . I have been using Plaque off from 1 year til then and my vet told me to continue using it because it was doing wonders. I used to brush her teeth all the time but the stuff I used got recalled and I was hesitant to try another brand. I tried the Plaque off and I am glad I did. Don't think you are a bad mom. Your vet was wrong in telling you that there was nothing wrong.

| Thanks for the reply! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has had to get this done. Did it have any effect on Maggie? Was she eating normally and acting normally after having it done?

| Don't blame yourself. Edie had to have her 4 top front teeth removed at age 5. The vet says there was nothing I could do to prevent it. I WOULD heed your vet's advice and remove the back tooth. Bacteria can invade the body and attack vital organs through the gums. That is why dental hygiene is so important to humans and animals alike. |

| I have gone through dental surgery twice in the last two months with two of mine. MacTavish, almost 1 1/2 yrs. had to have a baby molar pulled. It was loose but just would not come out. My new boy Mocha, 5 1/2 yrs, just had several teeth pulled that his previous owner did not tend to. Both boys came through beautifully. MacTavish came home like nothing had happened. Mocha took two days to start "gumming" his kibble. I had him on canned food but he started stealing kibble from MacTavish and Madeline. LOL Best of luck!

I've been using Petzlife for about 1 year now, and at 1 1/2 years Joey's teeth look great. I also give him bully sticks to chew on, and I think this helps too. What have you been feeding, I know some foods say they help reduce tartar.

| I have been feeding her Orijen 6 Fish, but I may be looking for another food after this bag is done due to the scare with large salmon bones being found in the kibble! She gets bully sticks to chew on quite often too.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I know this is a real problem for Yorkies, I just didn't realize that it could happen so young.

| I know... I thought it was something I'd have to worry about when she was 7 or 8 or 9 years old

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I just had Pixie inf last week for dental as her teeth and gums were really bad. She is just 2 1/2 years old. She had to have 2 top canines and 3 back molars pulled due to loose teeth. The vet said a lot of it is genetics. I had not been real good at brushing any of their teeth but now I do it every day. Pixie's teeth look so good and for the first time since I have had her (I got her at 13 months) she has clean breath.

YT 1000 Club Member | yorkieforme, No it's a liquid that you put in their water. I order mine through Jeffers. I use a gallon jug and put in the measured amount then fill the jug with water.
