| ** PLEASE READ** Health Reliability? Ok, Im about to purchase a male who weighs approx 1 lb at 9 weeks from a woman. He is AKC registered and current on all shots, tails and claws are done, and parents are on site. She claims to she has been breeding for 5 years. What concerns me is that she has about 3 other yorkies and the chance for diseases are there. She said she offers a 48 hour return, meaning that if the dog gets ill or health is in risk she will issuse a full refund with the return of the dog and a written Doctors note. Incubation periods range from 1 day to 14 days. This means he can bring something from over there and show no symptoms until 2 weeks after I bring him home. Which will leave me responsible. I dont mind taking care of him but shouldnt the breeder know this and be responsible up until 2 weeks for any diseases? What should I do? Thanks everyone!!! |

| Maybe you should buy from a breeder that has a better health contract. Most breeders of Yorkies have more than two breeders, or so I have noticed anyway. That does not mean they will automatically have or carry parvo nor the incidence be any higher. You can pick up parvo ANYWHERE!!!!!! It can be tracked in on your shoes and hands. I would look at the cleanliness of the breeders place/dogs and see where the dogs are kept. If they are only kept outside in the back yard, then that is a major no no. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm...well, technically - giardia can have an even longer incubation period (and can be latent for awhile) - but not usually in puppies bc they're so vulnerable - so - I don't know what you can really do in terms of a rock solid contract. Or, if there is one. It kind of sounds like maybe you don't feel good about this breeder though - is that it? As an aside, if it were me - I wouldn't take a yorkie at 9 weeks old from any breeder, let alone a ONE pound yorkie. In fact, I wouldn't take a tinier yorkie until he was 16 weeks old or so, but that's me. I picked up Marcel at 16 weeks and 1.4 pounds - and he was stil incredibly vulnerable.

| The Yorkshire Terrier Club requires breeders not to sell Yorkie puppies before they are 12 weeks old. If this breeder is letting the puppies go at only nine weeks old, you are not dealing with a reputable breeder. Only offering a 48 hour health guarantee is further proof of this. You are right to question this breeder. Trust your instincts. |
