| Skin problems Hello again Misty, Cookie's younger sister, has scabs from constant scratching - she doesn't have fleas and I do regularly bath both her and Cooks (she doesn't have any scabs at all even though she scratches) I am not overly worried about this, but it can't be nice for Misty. Before I go out and buy expensive skin treatments or visit the vets, can anyone suggest what it might be and/or possible remedies? Thankyou Paul, Cookie and Misty

| Have you checked her food? Make sure there is no corn, wheat or soy, and no by-products. Corn, wheat and soy are known allergens and can really make their skin itchy. Check the ingredients on her treats too. Also what are you shampooing with?? I know there are several brands out there that are available here but not sure in UK. Many of the doggie shampoos are too harsh and can dry out their skin. I would check with a show breeder to find out what they use in UK. I know a lot here use the Milky Sheen but not sure if it ships overseas. Good luck!! I hope Misty can find some relief!! |

| Roxy has this happen too. *Something* makes them itch (ie: allergies to food or the environment, dust, pollen, fragrance and dyes in soaps and detergents are the most popular) the intense itching causes their skin the break and allow bacteria on the skin level causing those pimples and puss and scabs, this is a Staph Infection, don't get freaked, it is very common and not dangerous as you think, but most do need a round of antib's to clear it up and you also should try to find the root of the problem if you can....This isn't contagious either. |

| It could easily be a food allergy. A couple of my dogs of another breed had really bad skin reactions to some foods. The best food here for it that's widely available is James Wellbeloved. Get the Lamb & Rice one as that's the best to clear skin reactions. It's available in small bags, as well as big, so you could try it out. If you have a branch of Pets At Home near you, they let you have small trial bags free of most of the dry foods they sell. There's usually a small bin in the aisle where they keep the dried dog foods that you can just help yourself to, but the staff will help if you can't see one. You can take as many as you like, but have them scanned at the till. They won't charge for them but it stops the alarm going off at the door if you try to leave! |
