| Eating each other's food! (and a million other problems) Oh man I'm at my wit's end with Franklin and Maggie, haha. I just recently switched Franklin to Solid Gold from California Natural, and Maggie has been on Solid Gold Just a Wee Bits since we got her. They both will eat their own food when they have no other choice but Franklin LOVES Maggie's food and vice versa. I am constantly chasing them around and withholding food until I can keep them separated. Franklin (and I assume Maggie has too) has always been free-fed so he never eats all of his food once I put it down.. which MEANS that there is always food available for them to steal. Any suggestions? I'm thinking I might just switch Franklin to adult food.. he's almost 8 months. Do you think it's too soon? ALSO! Maggie eats poop! Not her own and not Franklin's, but poop she finds outside! It's driving me crazy. How do I fix that?

| I just feed mine on a schedule and they eat at the same time when I feed them. Then you can either separate them or feed them in their crates. If food is down they are going to eat it..... Or you could just switch them both to the same food. Keep Maggie on a leash outside and she won't be able to eat the poop. I've heard people say to put hot sauce on the poop so they learn it's a bad thing to eat it, but I'm not sure what the side effects of the hot sauce would be... probably not good.

| If you switch them both to the same food, switch them both to the puppy food. They really need it up to a year old and it won't hurt the older one to eat it until the younger one turns 1 yr old.

| If you feed them at the same time each day, leave the food down and watch them while they eat. When they walk away from their dish, take the dishes away. They will soon learn to eat what's in front of them when it's presented, and not to leave it until they are finished. That way, you can keep them on the different foods. If, like me, you're not able to feed them at the same time each day, and have to leave their food out, then you might have to feed them in different parts of the house and keep them seperated for a while. Otherwise, I think you'll have to switch them to the same food. (I have Spike at Felix, my 15 year old cat. They often try to eat each other's food, so I have to keep them seperated when I'm not at home!) |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I have 4 yorkies......they eat in the morning & at dinner time. One is on "diet" food, the others (1 adult, 2 under a year old) all eat puppy food. When I feed them, I sit and watch. Lucky, the one on the diet gobbles his food down every time; he's the main reason I watch or he would definitely be in the other bowls. I give the others maybe 15 minutes or so to eat, then up it goes til the next feeding. As for poop eating....if it's not their poop, who's is it? I've heard that if you feed your dogs a bit of pineapple, it will make their feces taste really bad to them (it dosen't already!?????), and they won't want to eat it anymore. Haven't tried it, but that's what I've heard.
