| Ticks and Frontline Hello all ... I have a question that I am sure others will have the answer for. When you apply the Frontline or other flea/tick product on your dogs, what exactly happens to a tick if it bites. Does the tick attach itself to the skin and then drop dead or would it fall off alive? Another woman at my daughter's softball game told me that she doesn't let her dog sleep on her bed in the warm months because of the chance of ticks being on her dog. She also uses Frontline but doesn't want to take the chance. Well now I am nervous thinking what if there is a live tick crawling on our bed. GROSSSS!!!!!! | well the frontline I believe only helps to kill the tick once it tries to bite... but if you take your dog for a walk and then go home and go to bed and there is a tick on him it could transfer from him to your bed. Just a thought! I always check my boys before I go to bed with them to make sure there are no ticks crawling on them bc that grosses me out to NO end!

| It's happened to me. We seem to have a zillion ticks in Virginia already this year. It is so yukky. And if they bite you, it itches for 2 weeks AFTER you pull it off. Then you have to watch it for the bulls eye in case the tick carries lymes disease. I HATE using chemicals on Maxwell, but I do use frontline. |

| My vet told me that all of the tick stuff only kills the tick after it bites. There are some wonderful sites that have all-natural flea/tick repellents. I have stopped using Frontline plus on Mojo and LilyGrace, but use it on our three big outdoor dogs, since they walk all around our land and woods.

| A big NO to Frontline! I agree! Frontline and other brands are dangerous pesticides and natural repellents work just as good, if not better! It's easier to spot a tick or fleas for that matter if pooch is sporting a short puppy cut for the summer. Quote:

Chinaroad Lowchens of Australia - Ticks, fleas, bees, flies, snakes and other gremlins! And how to deal with them! Also, you can do a search online for all-natural flea/tick remedies, repellents, etc. There's a wealth of info. out there! (thank goodness)

| Certain fragrances keep fleas from getting on the pet at all and without chemicles that get into the blood stream. I always post the Australia site, but was beat to it this time. I live by the all natural products, and they work much better. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | what a cool site !! I had posted last week about my girls itching & me thinking it was our water due to the fact that I saw NO evidence of fleas - so just in case - I did the Dawn Dish soap bath and sure enough A FLEA CAME OFF - I was in shock - they've NEVER EVER had fleas and I know being in a new apartment I was taking a chance cause I don't like to use frontline - I got some the next day & used it and everyday I'm searching and searching their little bodies and have yet to see a flea ....but obviously these little MONSTERS hide very well and are fast. I'm SO pissed - I HATE THEM I'd like to find out where to buy these kinds of natural products .....Does anyone know ? |

| I know it's not the best thing to do to use these products but when your dog is outdoors 4x a day and playing with other dog's and walking and rolling around in the grass daily because he loves it so much, you do what you can to protect him/her. Frontline works well for Buddy however IT DOES NOT KILL ALL TICKS. It only kills some ticks. So don't be surprised if you see a tick buried in your pet having lunch and it's not dying. I called Frontline last year about this very thing and they told me to read the SMALL print where it states not all ticks are killed with this product. This year Frontline came out with another product and it is suppose to kill all ticks within 3hrs. I started using it two months ago and Buddy has had no side effects. It's called Vectra 3D. He has never had a flea but has had a couple ticks that did not die and I had to have them removed. I have never found anything in my bed. Thank heavens. I want us both protected and we live in a high flea/tick area in NY so I have to do what I have to do. I don't like taking medication either, I'm not a pill person but when you have to you have to. My neighbor used an holistic remedy given to her by her holistic vet and her dog was infested with fleas last summer and they were in her house as well. I am not willing to take that chance. I stop the flea/tick meds from Nov-March every year giving him a break. I also, years ago, used the Hartz collar on my other two dogs for 17 and 15yrs respectably. Never any kind of side effects and never a flea or tick on them and the were in the yard every day for hours running and playing. You have to do what you think is right. Watch for any signs of discomfort then stop. I have never had anykind of problem so far. Finger's crossed I don't. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | GREAT Post Carol !! I agree- we all have to do what's right - I'm interested in the home remedys for my home - no sign of ticks or fleas etc but you can't be too careful especially in hot places like tx...but I'm biting the bullet and using frontline Plus for the 1st time since getting my girls. I never had a flea problem before and don't want to GET one. Not to go off the subject but the ugly thing about FLEAS is ....the eggs actually fall OFF the dog and gestate in your home - that's SOOOOOOOOOOOOO gross ....so on top of your poor doggie with the buggies - you MUST TREAT THE HOME and especially their 'places' washing everything in hot water is a great way to kill larve

| Thanks V. You gotta do what you gotta do IMO. I know your girls have been scratching and it is terrible for them to be itchy. Use the Frontline Plus, I did for 3yrs then this spring switched to Vectra 3D per my vet's suggestion. Never a flea on the Bud but I did see 2 ticks buried and alive! They were removed so I'm trying this new product instead. I know it's scary, expecially with the little ones but you need to protect them just the same especally if they are in the grass and with other dogs. |
