a carbohydrate should never be the first ingredient. That being said, just because #1 has duck listed first, doesn't mean there really is more duck than there is potato

I know it's not ideal but Hobbs has allergies so I have very limited food choices.

What are his allergies? My Lu is allergic to all grains (or so it seems) and we have had pretty good success w/ Taste of the Wild which is grain free.

Ok I know FOR SURE he's allergic to corn, wheat, rye, and barley. And he's also mildly allergic to something in Canidae, so either poultry or rice, or both. I also like to stay away from dairy and soy.

Are oats bad for allergies?? That's the only concern I have with Brand #1.

Yes, definitely give it a try! I can't even begin to count how many foods I went through w/ Laney! At first I thought she may have been just allergic to chicken, so we tried several chicken free foods, but she still shed like crazy and chewed at her feet. I finally saw taste of the wild at the feed store and decided to give it a try. She almost quit shedding completely! For her the Pacific Stream formula seems to work best.

I think Fromms has barley (I may be mistaken...I've looked at so many foods they all seem to run together). I've tried Orijen and it's too high in protein for us......it makes them drink WAAAAAAAAAAAY too much water!

THANKS! I really appreciate it! There doesn't seem to be a dealer in my area, but I'll order a bad online.

I believe oats are good for allergies...just think-Aveeno lotion is for people with really sensitive skin, and there is that oatmeal shampoo for itchy dogs.

I agree with Marci on the fact that a protein should be the first ingredient, however, on #1 duck is first, then two carbs... on #2, it's a carb, then two proteins. So, #2 may actually be better than #1. But, I'm unsure about the Taurine and Salmon Oil in #2...the oil could have mercury in it, and might make him smell fishy Taurine is essential for cats, but I don't think dogs need it?

I think they're probably equally good foods. I know that helps a LOT
