| Feeding and thawing raw medallions??? HELP! How do you guys feed and thaw your NV medallions? I have been taking out what I need for the next day at night before bed and its usually thawed by the AM....but its still really cold and I hate giving it to them cold! So how do you guys do it? Also I am a total germaphobe! How do you guys handle the raw meat without worring about spreading all that bacteria?!?!? I have a baby as well and I am SO worried about making him sick! And handling the raw dog food in the same area I make his baby food! I use lots and lots of Lysol, but I still worry! HELP!!!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | when i get a new bag of food i separate the whole bag into daily sandwich bags and put them in the freeze. At night i take out a bag and put it in the fridge to defrost for tomorrow. mine gets 2 in the am and 1 in the pm. they are served cold and sometimes still a little frozen. morgan eats them either way. if you want to take the chill out, you can put the baggie in some cold water to make them not freezer cold, but you really don't want to warm them up because that takes away from the "raw" aspect.

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I do what you do also. Take only the amount I need out the night before for the next feeding. However, my babies do eat them cold. They don't mind them that way at all and they gobble them right down As for the germs...yeah, that can kind of be a pain I wash my hands like CRAZY after messing with the raw food, and even though I don't let it touch the counters (unless I just drop some by accident) I ALWAYS...ALWAYS spray the countertops down with Lysol Anywhere Spray after I am done preparing their food. Needless to say, I go through Lysol Anywhere Spray and paper towels like crazy And hand lotion too...because I wash my hands sooo much now that my skin gets so dry! And because I am just plain lazy and got tired of washing their food bowls every SINGLE time they ate....I have now just started buying disposable bowls. How pathetic is that? I would rather PAY MONEY and have them eat out of something that I can throw away rather than wash food bowls out all the time...lol. It just became very time consuming and this is what works best for me so this is what I stick with.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Here's what I do: *Take ~3 days worth of Medallions out of bag, place in tupperware for fridge *On counter, have teensy, charming creamer, something like this (but w/out the spout); inside of this - I always keep two mini-forks, these are tiny - love these - and use them to "stab and grab" the medallion, place in bowl and shred - you don't touch it all ALL *I use low-rimmed, porcelain tart dishes for their bowls - bc they don't tip, they clean easily - and they're WHITE - so they show anything left behind. And, because they lick them clean, I really do not need to clean them every day - I throw them in the dish washer about 2x per week - and it works just fine. I'm attaching a pic of what I use - they're maybe 5-6 inches across.

| i use disposable everything. i put each portion (2 medallions) in saran wrap, put them in a zip lock bag and into freezer. i defrost each portion over night in refrig. when feeding: i take the saran wrapped portion out of refrig, dump the medallions into paper bowl, use a plastic disposable spoon to cut it into small pieces. this way, i never actually touch the medallions. after feeding: i wait for coco to finish (usually take less than 2 seconds ) with an alcohol-free fragrance-free baby wipe in hand. i wipe his mouth and nose area.

| Handling the Raw Handling the dog's RAW meals really is no different than handling one's own meat before cooking. I have a designated cutting board, knife, etc. In order to keep the bacteria level on my countertops and the dog's areas to a minimum, I have a spray bottle with parts white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice and water. I want to keep everything non toxic for their health and my own. I also use a non chemical dish washing liquid found at Health Stores as I don't want any chemical residue on my babies food and water dishes. I use that in conjunction with a natural sponge and and toss it in the washer every other day. I use latex gloves when handling the meat (I'm a prey model feeder) but that's more for my dog's benefit to avoid cross contamination. If you're concerned about the medallions being too cold, you could try running a little warm water over them while they're in the bowl already, mash it all up with a plastic fork then toss the fork in the trash. Washing the food and water bowls once a day is fine in my book but after every meal is fine, too! I purchased a fridge/freezer just for the dog's meats as to keep them separate from our own and because with 3 dogs I needed more storage space of course. I have a little child myself. Remember, even kibble and other types of foods can carry transferable bacteria. As long as RAW is not to be feared as the Anti Christ of clean and sanitary living and certain precautions are being made, then the entire household should live happily together!
