| Started Natures Variety Today! I got my shipment in yesterday so I started her out this morning (chicken/turkey) & she just gobbled it up, for her weight it said 1.7 (I'm feeding the medallions) & my scales need a battery so I kind of just guestimated & she was looking up at me licking her nose saying more! more!! I hope she continues to love it! I prob will supplement w/a little of their kibble too so when we travel. Thanks michele/my fair lacy for all your advice. |

| I'm so happy I switched Lucy to raw. You know they make NV freeze dried? I'm going to try it for Lucy when we go away for the first time next week..

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | That's GREAT girl! I am so glad to hear that you made the switch! I think that you will be extremely pleased with the results NV Raw is awesome! I too give my babies the NV dry kibble as well (actually though - I just started THAT today ). They are getting the Duck Meal & Turkey Meal formula and they both LOVE it. Next, I will try them on the Rabbit

| I had ALOT of help from YT!! I believe you can start with the chicken or lamb at first. I really think I'm doing the right thing. So far so good today, reading another thread earlier I hope we don't have any of that toxicity leaving the body stuff. I really love her just soo much!! my husband laughs b/c she got in her food yesterday, everytime I go to town I come home w/either a dress or toy, her cet vanilla-mint toothpaste came in today as well as her crate set(bumper, cover, pad) & we our still waiting on our petzlife to come in, he said we needed to get her a t-shirt that says "It's Regan's world, we just live in it" LOL |

As for the freeze dried, it's great! Actually, my guys love it just as is, it's bizarre. I do the raw frozen medallions - but if needed, for traveling - I can do freeze dried. So, I just crumble a medallion with my fingers into their bowls - that's it - they LOVE it. You can add water, if you want - but I think they like it better without!

| How old is your baby? Abby's breeder had her on Eukenuba and Daisy's previous family had her on Pedigree. I know Yuck, but I had read that it's not good to switch them suddenly, so I'm still feeding them the food their tummies are used to. (although I add veggies & cottage cheese in with the kibble) How do I make a switch to NV? Abby is 12 weeks old, should she stay on a puppy food? I want to do what's best for them. HELP!

| Regan's b-day is 0ct 3 so that makes her almost seven mnths old, I would think it would be ok to go on & switch her to the raw. I'm sure someone will hopefully post more info on switching when they're so little. MyFairLacy advised to just switch cold turkey so that's what I done I felt it was best as well. |

| Oh Yes, I am really going to call her. I guess I'm wondering if she does w/end apts or a late evening. Only one way to find out :-) I work full time and during the week it's crazy. Andddd.... as I am typing this my little one Samie is in the kitchen sniffing around like crazy. I opened the fridge and she was looking at me like- Yes mama, I want more of that good stuff! :-) But she can't get any more until tomorrow. Not sure yet if I am going to do am and pm or just pm for the w/end. I always also thought that it wasn't good to feed raw and kibble together. One thing the natures variety rep told me was that she puts the raw food on top of the kibble so they eat it first. she does not mix it in. Makes sense. If both digest a little differently. She also said that I could give it as treats only if I only wanted to do that. I am signing off for the night but I anxiously will check my post tomorrow. I made a salad for dinner and it's getting "warm" :-) oh and yes me too- need to know more about proper handling and how long to leave in the fridge before throwing it out. Oh good heavens--- where in the world would i be w/o you guys?!?! one more thing before i go, I reached the supplements too a little and they all seem really good!!! I will post some info on them this w/end. Hey maybe this holistic vet just has a specialty for supplements??? I really only wanted to go there bc i am looking for a new vet since we fired the one we were seeing. NOt the specialist... our reg vet. So that was what I wanted to try for with this visit. Because, by God we cannot keep seeing the specialist like we are for even just follow up labs. It's crazy expensive. 125.50 for a UPC check and lately it's been every 4-6 wks. the past few weeks ---1054.00 for all new labs for both of the girls, bat on samie, and urinlaysis and upc check on both. Then another upc 125.00 for wed's upc recheck and 250.00 today. and don't forget 75.00 that I am going to spend on dr susan davis....:-))))) I did talk to hubby a little more about it tonight and I think he is fine now. He knows how this is wearing on me, and he has been just as worried. These are his little girls too... sometimes he is more pathetic than I am. :-) I know he wants me to do what's best for them. I will post more about the supplements and what I found on them this w/end. Right now I am going to spend some time with my hubby AND... my little angels. :-) Oh and onnnnnne more thing. :-) me too- I am wanting to know more about safe and proper handling. Just to be sure- and also how long it can stay in the fridge for while defrosting. 2 days? 1 day? Last edited by sadiesamie; 04-18-2008 at 08:08 PM. |

What I would do is get her home and continue what the breeder has her on until she is well-adjusted to your home and eating well (a couple weeks probably) and then switch. I would just switch cold turkey. That's what most do with no problems. Some will be more sensitive though and might have some tummy upsets at first. Have some canned pumpkin on hand in case of diarrhea or constipation.

Abby is already home. So now I'll check into ordering some NV. I have Abby who is 12 weeks and Daisy, who's 2 years old. (she was just rehomed to me a couple weeks ago) Can they eat the same thing? If so, that would make things so much easier. Abby is always wanting to eat Daisy's food. I'll go back and read what was suggested to start them out on... I appreciate the help. Tammy
