Default Laser or the Traditional Nueter

Is one more safer than the other? My vet said with the laser, he'd still have stitches. Soo is it much different than the traditional scalpel? I'm asking because I thought my vet was kinda expensive, and decided to call another vet. Meeko is scheduled to get nuetered, his 2 back declaws removed (non-articulated), and his 2 bottom canines removed. The quote I got was $1100. Thats with everything, all the bloodwork and everything before hand, anesthesia, and pain meds to go home with. Maybe its just me, but that seems like a lot. I'd rather not spend that much money if I dont have to. I LOVE my vet but, still. Soo I called another vet, that my friend uses and she trusts. I got a quote for about $500 but, doesn't do laser. That's a big difference to me. Is the laser that much better that it's like $600 more? I don't know what to do. Money is a little tight rite now, I'm looking for a new job rite now. Soo the extra money is a lot rite now but, if it's gonna be safer and better, than i'll spend the money. Can you give me your opinion, I'd really appreciate it.

Oh if anyone here if from South Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, or Miami Dade Counties) and really likes and TRUSTS their vet, can you please give me their name and numbers!!! I'm in south Palm Beach County but, don't mind the drive. I'm actually traveling 40 mins for my vet now, he's in Weston.

Thanks!!!!

I really don't know much about laser, but $1100 is too much for me to spend on a nueter!!

I am not sure about using laser on animals but I had to remove a little part of my gum that was closing my wisdom tooth. So my dentist used laser. I think with laser there is no blood at all and its quicker. I think thats the only difference compare to scalpel.

The laser is less invaive, Milo was done that way. I believe the stiches are on the inside, not the outside when done this way. Your price although is expensive is right around what I paid, for a sec I thought you were talking NJ prices not FL, my cousin lives in Tampa and whenever she tells me what she pays I get ill LOL cause it is usually 3 times more here.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Soo if your vet did do the laser, would you be ok with the traditional method? Or would you guys definitely want the laser?

I honestly didn't have a preference since our vet specializes in small dogs. I was comfortable either way. Lucy had a laser spay and there was no blood and he scar was cauterized by the time I picked her up so that was a plus but I would have been just as comfortable with the traditional method.

Ther advantage to laser is supposed to be less bleeding but I've talked to several vets who say it's not a whole lot better than regular. It does have an advantage for bloody surgeries like removal of cat's claws

I had no choice but to do the laser that is the only way my Vet does it. If it was my Vet and I had a choice I probably would have went the other route do to cost, but this is an operation I do not think I would feel comfortable going to a new Vet for this.

Wow that is high! I live in NW Florida and I paid $150 for my neuter and that included bloodwork. We still had stitched that had to be removed 10 days later too.

I know what you mean, I'm a little nervous switching to a new vet. The only reason why I'm thinking about it is because, the new vet is another member's (Professor PeteZa) vet. I asked about her vet and she said she trusted her vet a lot and has been going there for a very long time. Soo I feel a little better now because she knows how important Meeko is with me.
