Mickey is getting neutered and I’m nervous as heck He turned one year on Jan. 12 and he’s just getting it done now. My doc said it’s OK. Nevertheless, I’m really nervous for my baby and can use some support. Can you please share your stories on neutering? Thanks…

Mickey should be just fine. Most dogs are fine within 24 hours of the neuter and the hard part is keeping them from jumping around and licking it. I got Bentley neutered at 6 months and he did great. The hardest part was having some of his baby teeth pulled, he didn't even notice the neuter. Even with tooth pain combined with the neuter, he was acting like himself again within a day. Yorkies are tough little guys.

cecilia was spayed 3 weeks ago, and I think it was harder on me than on her. I actually went to three different vets before I chose which one to have spay her. I dropped her off in the morning and then cried all the way to work. i kept checking my cellphone to make sure it was still on and that I had not missed their call. They called me around noon and she did great, she also had her baby canines pulled as she had never lost them even though her big ones were in. They told me I could pick her up around 4pm. Some vets will want to keep them overnight, but since I don't have otherr pets or children at home, they let me take her home. She was very lethargic and I could tell she didn't feel so good, but I think it was mostly the anesthesia. She didn't act like her belly or her mouth hurt. The vet gave me pain meds for her, but she never needed them. The next day she was about 80% back to normal. After a few days she was back to her old self. Neutering is much less invasive and an even quicker recovery. Good luck and keep us informed. Camille and Cecilia

I got my lil Rambo neutered at 6 1/2 months. I was terrified and thought something could go wrong. The doctor assured me things were gonna be okay. I asked the doctor every question that I could possibly have thought of and he answered each and every one of them without a problem. I bought Rambo in at 9am and picked him up at 4. They gave him pain medication for a couple of days.Sure enough everything went well and he was up to himself in no time.I'm sure everything will go well for you as well.

im gunna get toby neutered, i havent made the appointment yet, but he is 4.5 months old and four pounds....... i am mostly getting it done this early out of time convienience and someone actually being able to be with him 24 -7 untill he heals up completely........ if we had it done later he would be on his own for at least three hours starting a couple days after surgery, so i think it is best if i get it done now, what do the rest of you think?

I think you are gonna be fine with leaving him after a day or two. They bounce right back. Although when people tried to reassure me that she was going to be fine, it didn't help much. I am glad she never has to do it again!

We let Higgins stay overnight at the vet's when he was neutered. The next day you wouldn't know he had had anything done to him! My little Energizer Bunny.....sigh.....

thanks for the replies Mickey was neutered yesterday and everything went fine. The doc also pulled out three of his baby teeth (which is good because he doesn't have to go "under the knife" anymore). Although he is slowly getting back into his usual routine, he is still groggy and has trouble walking normally. How long did it take for your babies to fully recover?

| Just a few days and you won't even realize he had surgery! I'm sure it's different for boys [never had any experience with neutering] ... but for Toto the main thing was the stitches. Had to be careful about her jumping up and tearing the stitches or getting them inflamed. She did great ... got stitches out in 10 days! Glad Mickey is OK and on the road to recovery!! Puppy kisses from Toto!

Please help! Is four months too young for Bo to be neutered? And can he have his last puppy shot on the same day? That's what my vet told me this morning...

Thanks for the input Babbie. I think I will do the shot on a different day. Bo seems to be a little sluggish after a shot. Whenever I end up getting him neutered I'll just be nervous. He's such a sweet little guy. I just hate to think of him being in pain...
