Exclamation I gave Hootie the wrong Sentinel dosage....

I accidentally gave her the dosage 11-25lbs instead of 1-10lbs and she weighs 3.5lbs. Is that really bad? Should I do something or just watch her????

Quite frankly I would NEVER put chemicles on my dogs, and especially something that comes with a warning label about avoid contact with skin and wash hands. Did you know that stuff goes directly into the blood stream. Can you imagine what it's doing to the vital organs?

I switched from Sentinel to Interceptor which is JUST the heartworm not the flea. I also asked the vet about how dangerous it was and she said they would have to take a HUGE dose for it to be harmful. However, we took them off the flea one because they only go outside to potty they don't run through the forest or anything and they get weekly baths with lavender Buddy Wash that deters fleas. My vet was fine with it. I would just ask your vet if the flea part is necessary. I know dogs can die from heartworm so we do keep them on that. I don't know of any natural heartworm meds - does anyone?

Different strokes for different folks. My husband's a doctor so I'm not really confortable with the holistic approach. To each their own......

During the winter I give the yorkies Interceptor because the fleas don't bite in the winter but when the weather warms up here in Alabama flea medication becomes necessary. So, it's Sentinel in the summer months. But I agree....more is less when it comes to medication.

I'm sure it depends on the area too. Like I said, my vet was kind of neutral on the flea part so I decided not to. If it was a big problem here she would not have let me stop giving it.

Oh and the higher dose didn't seem to phase Hootie. She's been acting perfectly normal. The vet I called also said that she would have to take a WHOLE lot of that medication for it to hurt her.
