However they will most likely need chemo as well.
I was talking to a lady the other day that has a maltese rescue and she said they are discovering that vaccinations given in the muscle of the rear leg is causing a lot of muscle atrophy and I also read about some cases of that. It is so frustrating when it comes to these vaccinations that no matter where they get the shot there are risks. We have always given the shots under the skin of the neck and we have never had any problems so far. I think the rabies shot is the one causing a lot of problems because it is given in the muscle of the rear leg.

the rabies shot can be given sub-q. that's the way i've always had it done, and done it myself. But yes, the rabies vaccine is the biggest culprit of reactions. they really need to improve this vaccine.

Good posting everybody. Sad outcomes for most...but this may help others with a very difficult diagnosis. My first Yorkie, Spencer died quite suddenly at 11 years old. The vet says it was just old age...but I have always suspected something else...cancer. Wish now that I had an autopsy done...but it wasn't offered. So I'll never really know what happened to my boy. Bless you all for sharing your touching stories...and may it help others understand.

Gosh, I thought that rabies shots could only be given by a licensed vet. I didn't know that anyone else could purchase the rabies vacine
