| Pet's don't need shots every year I just got this via email. Is this accurate? If so, I've been wasting money. Quote:

| I didn't read it but they are not necessary every year. The physical exam is though and the blood work when they get older.

| I didn't read the article, but mine gets vaccinations every other year - per her vet. It isn't money that should be your concern, but over-vaccinating can cause health issues later in life.

| Yes it is accurate. There are new studies and information provided proving that we shouldn't be vaccinating them every year and in doing so we are doing more harm than good. Some vets are updating their protocol to every 3 years with vaccinations, I just wish all vets would do this.

| Our old vet who has passed away now, He would always tell us that most shots last a dog and cat a life time,Just like ours do. there are only a few that they need every few years Rabies being one of them. Now that hes gone we have a new vet and he likes to give them all every year. |

YT Addict | I know some vets practice 3 yrs and some practice 1 yr. It's weird. My new vet says every 3 years. So that's what I'm doing. It's weird that more vets don't all adopt the same practice. It would help people like us out! Two different vets saying two different things is ridiculous.

| This was very good information for me as I am about to become a new mommy in a few weeks. I have been in the process of looking for a vet and getting all the questions that I want answered down. This is one that is going to the top of my list. I was one of those freaky parents that didn't vaccinate my kids until we absolutely had to and that was so they could go to school. Before the vaccinations they were never sick, now they get sick if someone sneezes on them the wrong way. Hopefully I can find a vet that is up to date with the way that vaccines and medications in general are done. Thankfully I have a regular medical doctor who is more like me and feels letting the body run its own course of things is often in the best interest of the patient rather than testing that can and will just cause problems later.

In most states (including Ohio), you can sign a waiver saying that you have a philosophical or religious preference not to vaccinate and the school has to allow your kids in.

| Yearly shots keep people going back to the vets, which the vet loves. It's a nice chunk of their business. |

| Shots here at Grey Acres.... I just get the shots here every three years. I do not get the booster every year, when I get the rabies, (here is AZ it is three years after the first yearly) that is when we do the series. Granted my animals do not go out of the yard much. We have 2.5 acres for them to run and play on..we don't do dog parks, because we feel that they are to dangerous. Hence...the 2.5 fenced acres here. ETA:: Age is also a factor in the shots. I have and old girl: she will be 9 this year and we figure that at her age, no matter how long she lives, after this next series, she will be done getting shots.
