Question raw diet anyone?

does anyone feed their dog raw diet? in particular a commercial raw diet, you know one that is already made, usually they are frozen... i have seen some different brands on the internet and i was wondering if anyone uses any, and if so what is it and how is it working for you?
thanks!!

Hi, I did try a raw diet for a little bit! The dogs loved it! It was a chicken one, it came in little medallions that you defrost in the fridge, I think it was Natures Variety, or something like that, I got it from Pet Food Express. But then my vet mentioned that with such tiny dogs, 3 of them, 3 - 4lbs, there is more of a chance of them getting sick from the raw diet. If they got a case of botchilism they could die, so I decided to use Innova Evo which is the closest you can come to a raw diet in a safe kibble form. I know alot of people love their raw diet but I didn't want to take a chance!

There are quite a few people that feed raw. I use the medallions and love them. Dogs don't have the same digestive tract as we do, their's is shorter and the stomach acids are stronger,so they don't get "food poisioning" like we do.

There are lots of topics on raw...maybe you can do a search for them and you'll have to make up your own mind on what works for you and your babies.

I feed The Honest Kitchen freeze-dried raw. It comes in a powdered form that you rehydrate with warm water before feeding. I love the ease of use - no refigeration necessary and travels well. Also great results with their coats.

many many YT members feed raw. I've been feeding raw for almost two years now with great results! I believe it is the best thing you can feed most dogs. I feed Nature's Variety raw medallions. I usually alternate between protein sources to give a variety. You can do a search here or look through this health/diet forum and you'll find several threads on raw feeding

I use Natures Variety Raw Frozen Medallions - mostly lamb - I also like to use venison, rabbit. I think it's such a superior diet. You can tell ALOT about the quality of a diet by what comes out the other end (poop inspection is a big topic 'round here, oh MY).

Anypoo, their poos no longer really have a smell, they become realllly teensy (the food is used rather than just pooed out as filler), and they become very "powdery" - so that oftentimes, the poo just distintegrates back into the soil. And, importantly, rather than poos being soft and voluminous (often the case w/ kibble/canned food) - the poos are firm/hard - and they will empty the anal glands, as necessary as intended, while the dog is eliminating - thus avoiding alot of other problems.

Raw can be great for so many reasons - nutrition, overall health, coat, allergies, digestion, teeth - etc. etc. - so if you do some searching on here, you'll learn a lot. Here is a link to Natures Variety: http://www.naturesvariety.com/conten...DA4Chui2146CA0

Lucy also gets the Natures Variety raw medallions. It is the first food she actually likes and gets excited about! So far I'm very happy we switched to raw

Oh, and I like that it also comes in freeze dried form for when we travel.

Jamie's on NV raw too. And for a boy who really only ate kibble to stay alive, he sure does gobble up the raw FAST! He really likes the lamb and venison but the rabbit is his favorite.

I tried it with Chelsea and within one day she was sick. Her throw-up was very yellow. I also bought the Natures Variety Raw Frozen Medallions Chicken, I don’t feed Chelsea spices that brand had cloves, sage and something else, which obviously didn’t agree. Plus all the duck eggs, quail eggs, etc. I think too rich and I thought we shouldn’t be feeding Yorkies to much eggs. So, I’m back to making my own at least I know what she is getting.

Ah!!! Just the lady I was looking for!! I just started a search here on the benefits of raw. After the scare with Mango this week (thanks again for the brilliant solution)... I decided to investigate this Raw Diet, specifically the Nature's Variety. I just picked up a packet today of the lamb, and was reading the ingredients. My goodness! They sound like human food, no correction, they ARE human ingredients, not a fillier in sight that I could find.
Mango has always been a fussy eater. In order to tempt her to eat her Evangers kibble, I was coating it with their Cooked Chicken.... this after trying a variety of their canned food. So, instead of starting her on the kibble again, which she has not eaten now since Sunday, I am going to slowly introduce her to the raw, mixed in with her mashed potatoes (long story..... but them spuds saved her little furbutt).
I am just SO happy I found this thread. I really think it confirms my decision.

We use Bravo and get it from barfdirect.com I buy 30 lbs at a time and just freeze it. I also tweak it by adding a egg and extra water to make it "creamier" lol

I use Stella and Chewys freeze Dried. For some reason she vomits when its the refridgerated raw. I am still trying to figure that part out when the freeze dried and the refridgerated raw is the same exact thing...

Anyway I think raw is great and healthy....

Good luck on your decision...
