| I'm at a loss... I don't believe there is a food that I haven't tried with Lucy, including raw for the past two weeks. She will eat something for two days then won't touch it again. I'm not feeding her from the table and I give her boiled chicken only when I'm desperate to get her to eat. I'm worried. She is not overly thin but I know this can't be good for her. What should I do? She is constantly trying to get into the cats food and I'm so at a loss and desperate I'm tempted to let her just so she will eat something!

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | If there are not any health issues she may just be picky. I have a friend that feeds her Yorkie cooked rice and ground turkey. After trying everything else it was all he liked. He will be two in August and doesn't even like steak or chicken.

| You can feed cat food. It is fine. This wouldn't be a good idea if the dog is overweight or has liver or kidney problems because cat food has more fat and protein than dog food. The excess fat makes it very palatable.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | So, you were using NV, right? Which flavors did the little stinker try? What you could try is - buy some canned white potatos (sliced kind - micro a bunch w/ some butter, mash them, salt a bit) - serve the raw w/ some potato - she may like the raw served in this matter. It might be worth a try before you toss that raw in garbage.

| In South Africa we only have access to Eukanubu, Royal Canin and Hills, over an above shop sold dog foods which are of a poor quality. Tinka is an extremely fussy eater and my vet suggested that we put her on Hills puppy. When she was hospitalised for a tummy bug they fed her on tinned cat food (not pellets - too high in protein apparently). So now I feed my too little furbutts on tinned Hills Puppy Chicken, Hills and Royal Canin pellets mixed and Pamper (tinned cat food) they love it. Tinka still has days where she doesn't eat well, and I find if she misses a feed, she is eager to eat at the next feed. My other three dogs, (two Border Collies and a Maltese) get Ostrich pellets and my two little furbutts love to steal those and chomp away on them, which amuses me no end. I forgot to mention that they lover raw carrots, apple, viennas and biltong(jerky) I tried them with sweet potato the other day, but they weren't too keen on that.

I have had her checked for any health issue that may be the cause and so far (thankfully) she is healthy as she can be.

| Hi, I home cook for my 2 as my maletese Puddy is a very picky eater. Scully is basically a garbage guts so I don't have to worry about her. What I feed them is either ground beef, pork or chicken fried up with brown rice and either peas and carrots or green beans. I make a big amount and then just freeze weekly serving sizes. I also feed them cottage cheese, carrots and scrambled eggs w/cheese. I checked with my vet and she said it is fine to feed them just to wantch the amount of cheese I give them as it is fattening. I also sneak in a supplement pill just in case the diet is lacking in something. I am also sneaking in dry food to get them to eat it. |

All homecooked diets lack in just about every nutrient. It is so important to supplement, especially with calium.

| I'll have to check when I get home. I'm at work right now not working. I use little chunks of cheese in training, would that supplement any calcium deficencies? |

| Not really because dogs require SO much calcium that dairy products won't work. They also need vitamin d for the calcium to work but some people prefer to give that in food form because supplementing with too much of it can be dangerous. Calcium and phosphorus should also be balanced in the diet if at all possible.

| Hi. I completely feel your pain of trying every food under the sun and they just turn their nose up at it. I tried every single food and I alo attempted homecooking but she started to not like that either. I went to all of the best pet health food stores in NYC and finally found a food that she LOVES. I know you have attempeted to give her NV raw and they do not like it. Abby (MY FURBUTT) is now eating Stella & Chewy Freeze dried Lamb. I would say to try the freeze dried and see how they like it. I had attempted the NV raw Beef and Abby had a violent reaction to it where after she ate the whole thing she threw up 5 X withing 10 min of eating. I do not say that to alarm you b/c u already have given her that with no problems- just of your furbutt not eating it. Before you go out and buy another packagae (very expensve) try to give freeze dried a try. I know some ppl say giving freeze dried all the time is not good but its the only thing she eats and licks the bowl clean!! I hope you find this useful as I have been in your same shoes...

| If you purchase your NV from Centinela Feed, they will take it back if your dog didn't like it. My kid will only eat chicken and sometimes Lamb but only the one from Harmony Farms. I have tried venison, beef, lamb from both NV and Stella and Chewy's and I've had to go back to Centinela Feed to exchange it for chicken each time because the sucker would not eat it. |
