| Parvo I bought 2 little Yorkie Poohs (10 weeks) a week ago and one of them has come down with parvo. The vet has already charged us $1,400 dollars for the vet bills and additional charge of $800 every day we keep him in there. We don't have anymore money to spend so we have to pull him out. I live in phoenix can some one please help me with some info or someone that can help us. We have only had the puppy for 2 weeks but we love him so much and don't want to lose him. |

| Here is an article on parvo If you pull him away from the Vets he probably wont make it He needs the IV so he doesnt dehydrate which is what happens with parvo Any way you can borrow the money from family. I have seen on here where pups have survived parvo with vet care

| I know nothing about Parvo and can not help you with more info, but I know that your biggest problem seems to be with with payment for your vet. Have you not contacted your breeder and is the puppy under guarantee? I am so very sorry that you are going through this and I will pray your puppy gets better soon... |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | With treatment it is possible for them to survive parvo, but it's not cheap. Unfortunately, I don't think there is any other method other than veterniary care. It's very contagious...even to dogs that have been vaccinated. The entire litter may be infected. Has your second puppy been checked? I'm sorry...it's very heartbreaking.

Donating YT Addict | I'm sorry to hear your pup is sick but bchgirl is correct it is extremely contagious. I'd try to contact your breeder because there is a really good chance your second pup will come down with it. Also be very careful when you go to the vet make sure you disinfect your shoes before you leave the area your puppy is in and wash your hands very well. I would also avoid contact with other people's dogs. I'm sorry this has happened to you. Parvo is really an awful thing

| My little one had Parvo, and it was a very scary experience for us. Thankfully, he made it. They say if they make it through the first 4-5 days of the infection, they have a good chance of surviving so don't give up hope! He was hospitalized for 7 days and it cost us a fortune. We had to get a Care Credit card, which let us charge it. We'll be paying it off for a while. Have you looked into that? There are ways to treat Parvo at home, but it involves force feeding them. I wouldn't suggest it. It's very risky and hard for dogs (especially puppies) to survive Parvo because it affects so many parts of the body. It's important to keep them hospitalized because not only do they need to stay hydrated, but their electrolyte levels need to be monitored, their body temperature needs to be controlled, and their white blood cell count and blood protein levels must constantly be checked. They also need to be given antibiotics to prevent further infections while their immune systems are so weak, as well as anti-nausea medication to help with the vomiting. I know it's expensive but I promise it's worth it. Also, to prevent the virus from spreading (potentially your other dogs), throw away all old bedding, toys, and bowls. Wipe/mop EVERYWHERE the puppy has been with a 1:3 bleach-water solution. Parvo is an extremely hardy virus that can survive on virtually any surface for over 6 months. Only bleach or approved parvo-killing solution will get rid of it. Keep your other dog away from these areas until he/she has been tested for parvo and had all of his/her vaccinations. If you have ANY questions, please don't hesitate to PM me. I understand what a horrible, scary experience it can be and I never would've made it without the support of YT members. ETA -- I forgot to ask, did your breeder offer a health guarantee? If so, contact them immediately. They really should be held liable for this, as your puppy most likely got it from the breeder's home. Also, they need to be alerted (like others said) so they know to watch for symptoms and can alert all other buyers.

| Thank You For All The Info Gizmo has been moved to a vet's office. Today he showed a slight improvement-he stood up and had some "attitude" with the nurse! His little brother Elmo is still not showing signs, but we are keeping an eye on him. We contacted the breeder who turned over the money we spent to buy them-it doesn't make a dent on the growing bill but every little bit helps. Please keep our babies in your prayers! |

| I had a girl only a short time and was told all her shots were given too her.. she was 6 months old, by 8 months old she had parvo.. I got her on the first night I discovered something was wrong.. drove three hours to a vet.. and she was there a week... it was a total of 1,200 and it is in there system for 10 days before it shows.. so maybe you can figure out if it had parvo prior to coming to you... You never let a puppy without all shots walk on strange ground.. you must keep them protected from the outside elements.. I pray your baby makes it... but if you can find a way... do leave her there.. I am sure if the vet has seen what you have spent so far.. he should be able to do a credit plan for you.. have you asked him this |
