| Bella had a difficult time last night and could not push out the first pup at 10:30pm. So we helped pull the puppy out with the guidance of a vet on the phone. The pup was not breathing and we tried to resucitate her but she did not make it. The vet said to bring Bella in right away so they can save the rest of the litter, so we did. At 4:30am she had the second puppy successfully and groomed her and nursed her. Bella did not have any more contractions after that and after 4hrs., the vet gave her oxytocin through injection. After another 4 hrs., they said that they were going to give her oxytocin through IV to try to induce her because it was taking too long. Then, after 2 hrs. after that, they decided to do a C-section. That was at 4pm. Then at 6:30pm the vet notified us that Bella was fine, but her last 2 puppies were stillborn. She just has one surviving puppy which is doing well. I am just so upset that the vet did not do the C-section sooner and why did they have to wait so long. They waited almost 12 hours after the last puppy was born before they did the C-section. Do you or anyone know if that is the usual thing to do? I thought that it should not be more that 4 hrs. after the last puppy is born. Anyway, during the C-section, the vet also had Bella spayed. I just do not want her to go through such a trying ordeal like this ever again. It is very devastating. Thanks for your support and encouragement. Becky |
