| Iguinal hernias Hi! I have a 4 months old yorkie whom just had corrective surgery for inguinal hernias . I planned on breeding her in the future but I'd like to know the risks and possible outomes if I do so. Ovbiosly if its not an option at all please let me know. I want to breed once only to keep puppies. :Puppy: |

| Baby had an inguinal hernia, and was sold to be on a spay/pet only contract. The breeder told me that inguinal hernias are heriditary and as with any other fault in a yorkie, should not be bred. Also, the risk of hurting her hernia would be far too high. I had her hernia repaired at spaying. I can't imagine risking hurting my little Baby, so to me it was well worth it. I am not an expert, so if any of this info is wrong, I apologize, I'm just going from what my breeder and vet told me. Good luck! |

| Sammi was bought also with an inguinal hernia...From what I understood, it is NOT a good idea to breed them with one...It can be passed down to the liter of pups... Maybe one of our breeders can answer better than I can... IMO, I wouldnt breed a dog with a hernia...

| Did you ask your vet when you had the hernia repaired? My Chai had an inquinal hernia when I bought her but is went away and healed on its own luckily. She is less than 3 lbs so I wouldn't consider breeding, but I seem to remember someone saying that hernias are hereditary. How old is your baby? I was told that hernais take a while to heal and some take up to 16 months. |
