| Crystal Tag Microchip? Has anyone ever heard of this sort of microchip? The reason I'm asking is becasue I took Evie to our Petsmart vet (whom I LOVE btw) and they use Crystal Tag... I've never heard of this sort of chip I've heard of Home Again and Avid... which is what Kayah has. The lady at the vet's office said that they put in not one but TWO types of chips as sometimes a shelter or vets office doesn't have the correct scanner needed (huh) She scanned Kayah.. and nothing came up wow!! good to know that if something were to happen.. and my baby got lost.. that they might not have the right scanner to bring my baby home Anywho, what have you guys heard of this Crystal Tag?? And the fact that they do two chips at once?

| Mine have the chip done by PetSmart and I'm not thrilled with it. I had my vet scan them at their last visit and the scanner doesn't pick up the number but it does give the message that a chip was found. I guess either scanner would pick up that message but, if I understand it correctly, the person doing the scan would have to find another place that has the other scanner to get the number to come up. I'm not pleased with this but the breeder had them done before I brought them home so I had no choice. I would have had my vet use their chip if it were up to me. If your dog had a harness on with their tags on it they would have the number to call but how many of us leave a collar or harness on our dogs all the time? | I have never heard of crystal tag chip.. both of mine have the Avid chip. It's sound like I may need to look into getting this chip. This is so confusing. They should make one scanner that would pick up both chips.

| imo... I think they should make one type of chip!!.. maybe use a different brand for each species of animal.. i.e. avid for dogs.. home again for cats.. and so on... that would make life much easier for us the owners.. not having to decide what type of chip to put in our pets

| Lily has homeagain and the vet said the chips are now basically universal meaning most scanners can pick them up.

| I had the same question a several weeks ago because I wanted to get my baby chipped at the time of his neutering and his vet said they use Crystal Tag. I asked YT'ers and no one heard of this chip. It seems that AVID and Home Again are the most popular in the states. I have read that most scanners (80%) in the US only read chips at 125khz frequency (FDX-A). I believe Crystal Tag is FDX-B which operates at 134.2khz and it appeared that it can be read outside of the US but I couldn't figure out how effective it would be here so I decided not to do it. I decided to find a vet who micro-chips with either AVID or Home Again. |

| so do you guys think I should just go to Kayah's old vet to get Evie chipped? I was going to do it at the time she gets spayed since she's such a little cry baby... but now, I think I'd rather sick with the Avid.. hmm decisions, decisions... lol
