| mucus in sammy's stool hi, i know this subject is disgusting , but i am concerned and need some advice. sammy has been on a homecooked diet since the dog food scare and has been fine. his stool has been hard and dark ( perfect) , now within the past few days his stool has been pretty hard and dark , but it has some mucus in it. near the end of it. what do you think it is ? thanks ahead of time. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If it's near the end, it could very well be just his anal glands emptying - which is a good benefit of hard poos. Maybe just keep an eye on it for couple days? If it persists, maybe go in? When the mucous is "around/throughout" the poo, it can a bit more of a warning sign. ^^^And, as in BrowniesMom, a great clue for a tuned-in Mom!

| What does his home cooked diet consist of? Have you added anything different to his diet like new treats or chew sticks? Usually a small amount of mucus just means they ate something that irritated the intestinal lining. Has he chewed on anything that he should not be chewing on (furniture, wall trim, etc). |

| Sorry, I don't have an answer for you. But I do hope your little one is fine. Can you call your vet and discuss over the phone?

as far as furniture or carpet or anything that he does not belong chewing, no he does not do that. i am a bit concerned because i had a maltese that had colitus and i had to feed her only dog food and no table food at all. so i am concerned that i will have to stop feeding him human food. thanks for answering me | |

| This seems to have gone on for a few days now... I would take a poop sample to the vet.
