Donating YT 30K Club Member | Found a lump on Pixie's hip/leg My husband was petting Pixie and felt a lump. It is about an inch long, oblong shaped and feels soft not hard. Pixie had her Rabies shot last week but the vet was new and she took Pixie in back to weigh her and gave her the shot there so I am not sure were they give the rabies. Does anyone know if they give it there or on their neck area? I will be calling to get her into the vet asap but I am a little worried about a cyst or tumor. Thanks

| Patti, I would be willing to bet that is where they gave the rabies, especially if it was recent and you just felt the lump. Most lumps not associated with vaccine injections, are not cancerous, from what I know. My Bichon has several "fatty" tumors they call them, and they are harmless. The vet checks them every visit and they have been in the same place for a few years He had the first one many years ago on his hind quarter the size of a golf ball, they checked it and biopsied it, then removed it and it was a fatty tumor. Please don't worry too much until you see the vet.

| I know cats are frequently vaccinated toward their back-end, and I'm sure some vets vaccinate dogs there as well. They should have recorded where they gave her the vaccine so you'll know if its because of that or not.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks I am trying not to freak out. I just can't take another sick baby. My husband ussually pets her in the same place and he never felt it before so I am hoping it is the rabies shot site.

| Is your vet open on weekends? you could ease your mind by calling them and asking where they give the shot. I'm sure that is what it is

Donating YT 11K Club Member | Don't worry I think it's from the shot. Teddy also had two lumps when he got his rabies shot and another one. They went away after 2 weeks.

| Hi Patti, this happened to me with Trixie. Same exact spot you mentioned and a nasty lump. I swear that lump seemed to stay there forever. I was scared to death and took her in to be checked out. As soon as I started to tell my vet why I was there, she knew right away it was from the rabbie's shot. Since Pixie just had the shot I would definately say it was a reaction and she'll be just fine.

| Patti, Since the Vet was new, that's probably where he gave Pixie the shot, but with all the problems of late, I'd still call the Vet and ask. Sheila |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks I called the vet and they are terribly booked and can't fit her in, makes me a bit mad since I have 4 dogs that are always there, but I asked where the shot was given and she said the right side right above the leg which is where the lump is. The lump is kind of fluid filled feelingand I would have thought from the shot it would be hard. So I am taking her in Monday at 2:30 just to be safe.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Patti, that lump IS from the rabies vaccine. Do not worry, i promise. It will go away soon. The rabies vaccine is always given in the right hip/thigh area so if a reaction happens you will know its from the vaccine. this happens with many dogs from the rabies. the lump will dissipate soon. However, if the lump gets any bigger you should then take her to the vet. this is not likely to happen.

Patti, Considering that you have four dogs that are always there, I would be upset as well. When you do see your Vet, I would mention this to him. Vets need to know what the receptions are doing. My girls are seen by one Vet, the co-owner of the clinic. One time, when I made an appointment and specified it be with him, I arrived only to have a different Vet come into the exam room. When I inquired as to where my Vet was, I was told he was off that day. I informed him of this, and he made a note in our records that he is the only Vet that treats my girls. Please try not to worry. Hugs, Sheila | |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks I am sure it is from the shot but I am going to keep the appointment just to be sure. My husband is in a panic that there is something wrong with his Pixie!! Roxie needs her rabies shot so I will call and ask if I can bring Roxie too for her shot and maybe they won't charge me just to look at Pixie's leg if it is from the shot!

| I don't think they should charge you just to tell you it's from the shot. Sheila |
